10" to 13" of lift not sure just bought truck 2 weeks ago. 40" max ATs cold air intake
Hi names Joe just purchased a 2012 tundra sr5 big lift 10" 13" not sure! I just replaced the 41x14.50x20 super swampers with 40x13.50x20 max ATs I am new to the big truck seen as far a owning one! My question to all is is it normal for it to seem like the tires are dragging like brakes are dragging? I've already replaced all calipers hoses pads! Hit dip in road and sometimes tire sounds like it's locking up! Tires all spin free when jack up no dragging of backs! Air pressure goog! Help driving me nuts!!!@

Not sure honestly! I was going to do the tire spin and drive shaft counting! When I drive it has really good pickup and will choose comfortable at 70mph in hi gear! But will down shift on a slight incline! I can only get around 11mpg if I stay at 65mph. Truck never sounds like it's working hard! I will be trying to check the gearing this weekend! Any recommendations for what gears I should have???? Like I said I'm really new to the big tires and lift thing! Thanks for your quick reply

    Pretty things
Have you inspected to confirm if your tires are in fact dragging or rubbing on the frame or bodywork when the suspension is compressed (ie the dip in the road)?

Yes I checked for any contact! None! I am new to the big tire and lift trucks as far as owning one but I have worked as a mechanic! This truck is in emaculet condition inside and out! But this is a intermittent problem don't have dragging feeling all the time! I've read some stuff about the abs block valves in in block not allowing brake fluid to return properly. Will be driving fine then feels like brakes start dragging! Was cruising at 70mph home yesterday RPMs 1500 so I don't think the gearing is wrong thanks for response any more information ideas would be appreciated!!!

I would think that is mainly the tire+rim weight, you are likely around 150lbs at each corner vs stock is 70-80lbs. Using the possibly incorrect tire math of 7lbs per 1lb extra rotational mass thatd mean 70lbs*4 tires * 7lbs equals almost 2000lbs. Thus your truck feels like you are carrying a ton in the bed vs stock configuration. The 5.7 can definitely deal with that weight but could be the sensation you’re feeling.

I get your point it sounds logical! But why would this only be intermittently? The truck will not have this dragging feeling for miles then out of no where it will feel like brakes start dragging or tire will make a quick skidding or quick howling sound on straight road or slight steering correction then be fine! Wouldn't the extra weight idea be a constant thing??

Maybe you have wheel bearing issues, common with tires that big and lower offset wheels. They could be damaged, hanging up. That would explain the drag feeling as well as a tire skid and the bearing howl.

Thanks for your response. I just replaced all 4 corners brake calipers! pads! hoses! last Thursday! Wheels spin freely and no grinding clicking squealing from wheel bearing!! The howling sound I here is only on a slight deep in roadway it is not a constant! When I do the left right turning of steering wheel to throw weight on left right side of truck I don't get the bad bearing growling grinding of the bad bearing!

The wheels may spin free when in the air, truck on jacks, no load, but could behave differently when the weight of the truck and those big tires are loaded on them.

Valid point! Being that I've done bad bearings on car and normal trucks! I no the signs and sounds of bad bearings! But because of your thought I may be replacing wheel bearings this weekend :monocle: anyone have suggestions on good quality
