Howdy...Just bought a used 2020 Tundra Limited TRD Off Road...first time owning any Toyota. Obviously I'm late to the game but glad to be part of the Tundra enthusiasts!

I go offroading in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and there are times where road conditions are poor (snow & mud). I have stock rims and tires and notice that the clearance around the front tires and suspension is tight...like slide your hand over the tire and the back of your hand rubs the suspension. So...my first question is...can you use tire chains on the front end and if so, what type?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to eventually provide experience and information with others.

I wouldn't use them up front anyway. Great way to snap expensive parts...rather quickly.

Look into some emergency strap chains too. Easy to put on/off.

If chains on the rears isn’t enough, it’s time to turn back. Chains on the mail truck is always a fun time until a link breaks.

Guess I was raised differently ;D...been a lot of places - in & out having to use chains on all four. Guess I better keep the 'ol Chevy p/u running for the hard stuff.

I’ve chained all four corners on mine when I had stock sized tires, but with aftermarket +30mm offset wheels. Used a heavy set on the rears and some lighter weight (small links) diamond pattern set on the front. I didn’t rub, but also don’t remember if I ever tried turning full lock…

We received a very large amount of snow for our area a couple years ago, and it made it much easier to get around.

I just looked at the clearance in the front and noped that plan.

I keep a set for the rears only in the back of the truck in winter.

That link sums it up with the broad strokes.

In my opinion, chains on all four wheels for a 4x4 vehicle is ideal, as long as they clear. Since I have one heavy set and one light weight/low clearance set, I am able to run all four when needed. I’ve only needed it the one time, but was glad I could since we had to go 23 miles. With the conditions, it took nearly two hours…

    Very broad strokes.
