Recently did a timing job for a buddy. Everything went fine till I decided to drop something down behind the cover while going to put the valve cover on. So I stripped it all back down and of course the second time everything went to hell withfighting me..

Long story short I know for a fact the first time out I had the oil pump gears dead nuts to the crank.. because it slipped on like butter. Second trip out fought megood.. once I felt it slightly catch.. I used a small rubber mallet to lightly tap it the rest of the way back till I could start my bolts into the timing cover. When checking it over after everything was assembled it just didn’t look quite right as it did the first time. The truck has been running a fewweeks since but I’ve been stressing about this since. Just trying to ease my mind.

Is it possible to actually align the oil pump wrong? Or does it really only truly fit one way? Guess what I’m asking is it possible to slide the gear on the raised portion ofthe crank gear instead of the flats?

Nope, It will only go on 1 of 4 ways on the flats.

Good deal! That makes me feel a little better then. I guess I just got lucky the first time and hit everything dead center!
