I have a 2015 tundra, and my belt and oil is good, sometimes when I start it it had a ticking sound when idling. sounds like a diesel engine at times, any ideas what this ticking is? I know its hard to explain till you hear it. just weird it does this. and some days it does it 3 times a week, then nothing for weeks. any help would be grateful.. thanks

What oil are you using? Many claim switching from 0W-20 to 5W-30 helps. Regardless this ticking sound seems to be common with the 5.7. I don't have it, luckily.

5.7s on 0w-20 oil will tick. Like sewing machines. Injectors can tick, exhaust leaks can tick (not common on these) and timing chain tensioners can rattle and make ticking noises. 5w-30 got rid of my sewing machine noises. Injector tick is usually pretty subtle.

    It's the timing chain.

It's normal. Most people have the random ticking that you describe.

Mine has done it since new.

I switched over to 5w-30 recently and really didn't notice much change in the ticking.

I've used 5-30 for years on my Sequandra (and hear no ticking) but the last OC 2 wks ago I used 0-20. Great to look forward to the 'ticking' LOL!

Mine's pretty quiet if you discount the firehose sounds of fuel rushing in to the injectors.
