Just made this thread so people can be on look out for the ticking noise coming from the transmission. I hear mine when pressing the brake at a full stop while in drive. First heard it going thru the drive thru, but if you do hear it on your truck most likely needs a new transmission.

My trucks currently at the dealer waiting for them to let me know what’s going to happen next but service manager said they just replaced another tundra’s transmission that came in with the same ticking noise.

    So just aheads up!

*not my video but it’s the same noise

Dealer hasn’t confirmed mine needs a new transmission but looks like it’s going that route

Weird noise for the transmission! If it was my car, I would have thought it's harmless ticking since v8's are master tickers! :D but this is v6 ... still the same.

what's the trans issue for those with that problem? Anyone knows?

Update with what they say. I also need to have my rear door window seals looked at, have the infamous gap they’re talking about.

After a hemi v8 I'm pretty much over trying to listen to any engine noises... And just try not worry about it as I got warranty for 10 years, and noises will get worse if it's an issue

But thank you for posting his noise, I'll be on lookout now!

What was the repair? I thought they were just replacing the trans with these noises.

So does that mean whatever they repaired last time is probably not related to this noise?

Got my truck back after dealer performed the tsb for the clunking noise upon start up. While the tsb did fix the clunk, I can still hear the ticking. Most likely need to replace the transmission but dealer said there’s no issues with the transmission so I’ll keep driving it till something happens.

But I’m also going to let the dealer know that the ticking is still there.

Just got mine back, they opened a case with Toyota and awaiting a response on what they should do. I’ll update since mine is making the same exact noise as yours.

There is a TSB for the clunking noise at start up? Better go dig that one up, mine does it once in a while, what did they do to fix it?

They had to recalibrate something to a newer version. Been about a week and haven’t heard it since, drives smoother too. There’s a thread that’s stickied with all the current tsb’s out.

So I just heard this same ticking noise when going through a drive through tonight.

Any updates on it from anyone who had it fixed by a dealer.

Is it still ticking on yours?

Yes mine is still making the ticking noise even after the tsb update regarding the clunk at start up. Haven’t told the dealer that it’s still making the tick noise after the tsb update though since it’s driving fine.

Not too worried about it since I also have their extended warranty.

    Wow... Ok.
I'm not even sure if I even want them to replace transmission on my truck.
It seems to drive ok besides this ticking noise which is barely noticeable when near a wall eg drive through.

Idk if I'll have any other issues after they replace the transmission... Does it require lifting up the cab?

Yeah mines barely noticeable as well, and I’m not sure if they would need to lift the cab.

I've noticed the noise in drive thrus. The truck shifts and drives smooth though. Is this ticking actually indicative of a problem, or a normal characteristic?

I don't think we have definite information whether the transmission ticking is an issue or just normal operation

There are several members posted that they noticed the ticking in their new Tundras as well.

OP said that another member had transmission replaced supposedly due to this ticking... But I'd say we don't have full story and understanding why it was replaced and if ticking is really an issue. Someone else said that dealership said ticking is normal.

We don't know if it's normal or not...

It's a pretty steady, regular cadence. I interpreted it as something happening on purpose, by design but what do I know. For what it's worth, mine is a 23' delivered mid January and I already have 3k miles. I definitely pay attention to subtle noises and this one came with the truck with no change since.

It’s on a precise rhythm. My 22 pro had it, my 23 platinum has it. The 23 1794 I test drove had it.

99.9% sure it’s normal and all of them have it

Another question for the group on transmission noises: do you hear an electronic "whirr" type of noise when you shift to/from park? I have a brand new '23. I've talked to a few other 3rd gen owners, most of whom say theirs does the same thing but am curious if you all experience that too? Similarly, sometimes I'll hear similar noises right after I turn off the truck too but that is a bit more ad hoc.
