I’m getting a thunk going into gear. P to D, D to P, D to R, R to D. I checked all U-joints. I didn’t find any play. Grease the yoke. I don’t have any vibrations. The shafts aren’t the problem. I think either the transfer-case is going out or the rear diff.

When I took this video I can hear the noise coming from the transfer-case

Is the truck budging here? If theres that much play at the diff, thats your problem. Put it in 4h (or are all sequoias awd?) see if the driveshafts move that much with feet on brakes.

it could be the t case chain, but i dont think the diff should have that much slop.

It is in 4H. Sequoia’s are part time 4wd, just like the Tundras. I can move the shaft about 1/4 inch when it’s in park with both wheels on the ground. Too much back lash causing the thunk?

I’ve seen similar issues on the 1st gen tacoma that share the same diff as the sequoia and tundra.

No, I don’t see any movement at the pinion.
