I've tried searching, but didn't come up with a definitive answer. I found some threads saying that you have to drop the rear of the headliner to get to 2 bolts to remove the third brake light housing on the double cab. Is this necessary on the access cab also, or does it remove from the outside. I went to replace the bulbs in mine with LEDs and there was some melting in the housing and I'd like to replace it. It seemed like it would pull out from the outside, but I didn't want to force it, so I thought I'd ask here, first.

It's my understanding it's glued in with the double-sided foam seal around the edge. I have the full assembly in my hand for the AC cab (costs $$$) and I don't see how it would be bolted in, but maybe I'm missing something. This is all I found in the FSM, they don't show removal anywhere I could find. But maybe for DC it's differnt. Does it flex or show movement when the cover is off? Maybe it has posts on the back side on the DC?

Here’s the rear of my new assembly for historical purposes.

Thanks. I did see that thread. I must have missed the part about it being an access cab. Appreciate the link.

OK, so it looks like the new assembly has a gasket on it that seals to the cab. I found a dealer in state that will ship the OEM part to me for about $125 or so...twice as much as aftermarket from Amazon, but I likely don't have to worry about the OEM one leaking as long as I clean the mating surface on the cab. I'll run over to my local dealer tomorrow to see if I can get it through them for the same price (or cheaper). Thanks much.

Yeah, it's definitely not a cheap part. But if you need it, you need it. I paid $112 for my assembly.

Install LEDs when you get it. Buy Sylvanias. Yes, I know it's more, but you'll never need to replace them, ever again.

Yeah, I found out the hard way that you don’t have to drop the headliner.
