Is anybody here from Wisconsin? My wife and I are thinking if moving to the Appleton area. We drove up there this weekend and we really enjoyed it. It was quiet, had beautiful old buildings and houses, and everyone seemed super nice.

Anyway I've got a job offer there and I'm just curious what some locals have to say.

I'm from central Wisconsin. It is a good area, and lots of offerings. There is no out of towner not welcome mentality in Wisconsin, like I read on other threads. We live west of there about and hour and 10 minutes away, but go there weekly to get a little city life . :) Lots of job offerings, etc. Lambeau is just up the road! Winter is a little cooler than your neighborhood but it's easy to adjust. Also state and local is very good about having good winter roads. I'd be surprised after you were here you didn't like it. Come on down!

The view from my uncle's front porch on a hill overlooking a small town in SE Wisconsin with a brick main street, water tower, cornfields, old barns and silos in the distance is forever burned into my brain. I would have no problem moving there. If you have Scandinavian or German blood you will be with your people.

It's all green and roses now, but come late fall and long winters, when you are freezing your asses off, you will be second guessing for sure!
I grew up in Appleton, went to college in Platteville, late spring/ summer rock, everything else sucks. I bailed in '79

Thread really covers it for me.

It’s beautiful and the people are wonderful- until it’s not.

Wife has mentioned wanting to head towards Eastern WI or NW Michigan along the lake someday - and knows I am 100% with that - beautiful country, not stacked on top of one another - friendly people without being overly nosy and a sportsman’s paradise.

Of course 4 months of the year it’s below freezing and there’s a foot of snow on the ground it feels like - and you better enjoy staying home and drinking as there isn’t much else to do - it and your untreated Tundra frame has a life expectancy of 8 years more or less until it’s Swiss cheese. But otherwise lovely experience.
