Thinking about buying a Lexus LC 500. What do you all think of that particular car?

#197 2021 Tundra TRD Pro Double Cab ordered in it's final model year. You could only get a TRD Pro double cab in 2021 buy ordering one. I ordered five weeks before Toyota closed down orders for that year. I would argue my TRD Pro is one of the rarest Tundra's ever made. 285/70/18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. RCI rock sliders Leer Tonneau Cover NSV Hood Mounted Lightbar. Genuine Cooling Systems Transmission Cooler (FU Toyota for taking the coolers off in the 1st place WTF) Suspension air bags for better towing.
My choices right now are a 2025 Mustang GT Dark Horse with the 6-speed manual, my buddies 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera, or the last year 2026 Lexus LC 500.

What I really want is the Lexus LC 500 with a 6-speed manual but those bastards at Lexus never made one.

The Dark Horse is going to run me around $80,000 the Porsche 911 is going to run me about $115K but only has 10,900ish miles on it. Both are manuals and that is what I really want I want to row my own gears.

BUT, that LC 500....wow what a car. The 5.0L V8 in that car is IMHO the greatest V8 ever made. It is going to run me about $105K.

    What would you guys get?

Please tell me more! I had no idea you could swap a transmission on the LC 500. If it would cost me less than $20,000 I definitely would do it. What I probably would do is instead of buying a brand new one buy a 2021-2022 that is now around $80,000 and put the money into the swap.

I have had a couple Porsches, 5 Corvettes, never been a Mustang fan- I would get the Lexus! If I did not live on a ranch and a dirt road I would have an LC500! Though I think the Porsche would hold its value better, but maintenance on the Lexus would probably save you $1,000s in costs over the Porsche. Also used Porsche to a new Lexus no contest (why is your buddy selling his Porsche?), have plenty of cash for the repairs and upkeep on the Porsche if you decide to go that way. But, I don't care how much money I have I still dislike paying huge repair/maintenance costs. But all 3 are great cars!

I know it will require an emulator so that the ECU will still "read" the automatic transmission. I do believe there are some LS, GS manual swaps, the gs/sc/is300's can be ignored as they have the Supra's options.. I'm looking at the tremec T56 6 speed swap all in is about 10 grand
    This guy detailed his swap

This guys showed showed. Both are older tech cars.

Porsche is gonna be $$ for maintenance and what should be (but doubtful) easy repairs. My buddy has the 911 careers turbo S in black. He loves it but he’s got a decent collection of cars to choose from. He’s had vettes, but coolant always seemed to leak on each of them at one point or another

I really appreciate your opinion on the three. My friend unfortunately is selling his Porsche because his wife was killed by a drunk driving illegal two months ago, and she was half of their income and he is selling the house, the cars, and downsizing to save money. I am with you concerning the long-term costs on the Porsche which is partly why I have it in third place in my choices. I have driven all three of these cars and the LC500 is absolutely special. It's just a damn shame it does not have a manual gear box, because if it did I would argue it would be the greatest car ever made.

Great question! Some times commute, fun on the weekend, take the wife out on a date, let her drive it to work now and then. The last kiddo is a senior in high school and the other three have all moved out, so like so many people at our age we are adventuring out into toys we've never had. We got married young (we were both 21), and so we are in our mid-40s and ready to enjoy life as empty nesters.

Does your wife drive a standard transmission? That would be first.

Second, if you are not tracking the car, I really don't think you will appreciate the 911 unless you just want the stigma of owning a Porsche. I get it. I want a 2007 997 really bad, but the recent prices are ridiculous and that generation car is getting old. Maintenance can get to be a bit. One of my buddies had one (reason I want one) and around a track it was sooooo much fun until brakes came due. 16k.

I actually test drove a 2025 Dark Horse 6 speed. That was an impressive car and I was able to take it up for an extended test drive up a mountain pass. Damn. Had I not test drove a 2020 Shelby GT500 right before that we may have purchased one. That kind of power and handling is addicting. We also didn't like the gauge cluster/infotainment screens. I would also shop around. 80k is a bit high. This DH has all options for less. May have to travel. This saves you enough to put a SC in it with a factory warranty. 810hp is never a bad thing.

I really can't comment on the Lexus. I love them but they just always seem to fall short in their own segment of vehicles. Have you considered an RC F? You can get those for pretty reasonable cost.

Out of all three of your choices I would get the Dark Horse, Supercharge it and have one of fastest street cars driving around under 83k. The DH also was the fastest car to date under 70k on Car and drivers track testing over the past 30 years. The aftermarket is plentiful for the Mustang.

It's not a Shelby GT500, but it isn't close to the cost either. The Shelby is God like. To really push one is amazing. I found a great deal on a Roush Stage 3 and it's a stupid fun car. A little rough until the car is over 75 mph due to the suspension. 750 hp and 670 #'tq is pretty damn fun.

When I said $80,000 I was including the tax tag out the door cost. Concerning my wife driving a manual she actually brought a 1998 Mustang GT 5-speed manual to the marriage! Her parents are big gear heads and wealthy and bought her that car in high school. We had that car until we traded it in for a 2008 Honda Odyssey when kiddo #4 came into the family. Out of the three cars she wants a Mustang. Her Dad currently has a 2014 Mustang GT500 6-speed so Mustangs have been in her family forever. This is his 5th or 6th Mustang apparently.

If we go with the Mustang Dark Horse we will wait until the 2026's show up on the lot. There are still 196 on the market right now that are brand new, and the local Ford dealership informed me the 2026 Dark Horses should start showing up in September.

Sounds like an obvious buy then. Mustangs are not the fastest or best handling with some exceptions...and the DH is one of those exceptions.

I've also seen some Mach 1's that I really like. Pretty darn good platform to start with.

I am in the process of if I want to go stupid with my Roush. Headers/methanol injection and new tune.

I appreciate your thoughts. The more I think about it the Dark Horse with handling package is the route we are going to go. I just love shifting the gears and my wife does too. If I go with the Mustang I would get a set of Michelin Pilot 4S' and save those Pirelli's for if/when my wife and I ever wanted to spend a day at the track. They are $1,100 a piece and apparently you barely get 7-10K miles out of them they are so soft and sticky. the Michelin's can go 20K-25K and are only $700 a piece. Outside of that there is nothing about the DH w/ Handling package that turns me off....oh the 17.4 Million Ford recalls are a turn off. LOL

check out Mach 1's too. They are very good street weapons.
I've seen some really low mileage GT350's too. I would actually sell my Roush for one of those.

Wow, that Mach 1 hung with that GT350R like crazy. I think that DH driver had no clue what he was doing. You could tell on that last race he was ripping tires and just spun himself out of the race. With that said, you have me looking on Cargurus right now at Mach 1's. I do like the last gen body style a lot.

I like the S550's over the 650's as well. Just something about them...
