How's everybody doing? So I finally got my truck back after it sat in my driveway with a smashed windshield for 3 weeks. I didn't really get a chance to enjoy it since the windshield was smashed 3 days after getting it. But now that I've had it for a bit, the sense of regret has sort of kicked in 'cause I've realized I don't like double cab configuration. I had a 2009 DC and felt it had plenty of room. The 3rd gen DC space is crazy tight. Visually I thought it would work but in real life conditions but it doesn't. For those that may say "why didn't you wait for the crewmax?!" Well like most Tundra fans I was excited about the 2022 models and since they were either flying off the lots or spoken for before they reached dealerships, I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this one and well I settled. So yeah I should have waited lol! I absolutely love the truck, but when things calm down (if they ever do) and they become readily available, I'm trading mine in for the crewmax. Who else is in the a similar predicament?

I didn't realize the DC '22 was smaller than the DC 2009.

I had a 2012 DC and wanted the CM. Released the new half gen in 2014, and I grabbed it. It was sooo much nicer for me.

I test drove a 2022 Tundra Limited Crewmax model the other day at the Toyota dealership, and it seemed to be noticeably smaller all around than my 2021 Tundra Crewmax SR5 Trailside including the interior spaces.

I just hope my new 2022 Sequioa that I put a deposit down on last week isn't smaller than my outgoing 2003 Sequioa as that would be bad for the family dogs.

    Thx for confirming.
Back late last year, from the videos and pictures it looked like the DC really shrunk. So I backed off.
I was very disappointed to see it did shrink from reports.
I wanted a DC to replace my '18 Crewmax one day. Even though I would have to give up the roll down rear window.
Now trying to decide if the Crewmax Long bed is too long.
All I can say is that you may be surprised what the dealer will give you for your '22 truck, but for them to replace it with another will be difficult.
Its win win for them as you are trading one in and buying another - so they will give you priority, but any they have coming in likely won't be in the color/trim you want. JMO based on conversations with the local dealers.
Hope your lucky. Interested to know how you make out.

    Sound advice.

With today's market, there is NO such thing as buyers remorse (financially).

Makes sense. I'll definitely think about it. Knowing my luck though, some BS would happen. But I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks for the advice fellas.

Went with CrewMax because of the space reduction of the DC (used to drive an '09 DC myself).

I miss the extra foot of bed (and the sound of a V8), but like the interior space of the CM.

Glad to see this post. I'm considering going from a crew cab Titan with the short bed, to a Tundra DC with the 6.5 bed as I need the bed more than the back seats. But, I do need to consider if the new DC is too small. I finally got to check one out at my local dealer. Of course the back seats are small, but to be fair to the intended use of the truck, I compared it to my wife's 2020 Corolla hatchback, and if I set the driver seat for my 5'11" and try to sit behind myself, it seems a bit better than my wife's Corolla, and the width is way better. So, for me, in a pinch, it's just as roomy in the back as our other car. For the few years my son has left to live with us, I think he'll be ok to ride in the back of the DC.

You make a good point. Thanks for putting it into perspective. I think I'll hang onto it for now. I do love the truck and honestly I spend more time alone in the truck than traveling with my family in it. So the dealer headaches probably wouldn't be worth it.

    Right on!
I waffle between the DC and CM, both with the 6.5 bed all the time. I do like the extra room and roll-down rear window, but once my kid begins driving himself in 2 years, we definitely won't need so much cab space. Personally, I don't mind how big a CM 6.5 is, but I believe the CM costs several thousand more than the DC, and I'd rather save the money.

It also helps that I like coupes, so the smaller backseat area makes the truck feel more cozy, like the coupe I own.

Forgot to add a pic, I'll get one of the Corolla for comparison, but here's the DC with the seat set for me at 5'-11", it's fine, in the Corolla I definitely can not sit behind myself:

    Here's our Corolla for comparison:

What are the 2022 DC interior dimensions vs. gen 2.5?
Are we talking about a few inches?

I think my 2016 DC is too big inside and out. I prefer something between Tacoma and my '16.

I keep hearing "5 inches" of leg room lost in both cab styles.

When I bought my truck I think it was one inch longer than Silverado and 1/2" or 1" wider than F150 or vice versa! Something like that. Basically it was long and wide!
I did some research and checked the published dimensions. I'm sure we can compare '22 with '21.

Curious if overall length of the truck is also 5" less!

My understanding is bed dimensions and most interior dimensions shrank by a hair or so in 2022.

I thought this was pretty well known, but I guess not. The DC is useless if you have legs.

Why not shop it around to a dealer and maybe a couple of car buying services? Not un-heard of for people to break even or occasionally make a few bucks in this environment flipping something new quickly.
