The Magnuson installer called and said my 2016 Tundra is a Flex Fuel model.
This of course was a total surprise to me.
Nothing would lead me to believe my truck is a flex fuel model and nothing was ever said to me to indicate that it was.
Is there anyway to know for sure?
    An emblem,anything!!?

Did a quick search and it said the gas cap area would indicate if it was a flex fuel.
I've never really paid attention to it since I wasnt looking to purchase a flex fuel model.
And I find it hard to believe I wouldnt have known this.

Should also be in the VIN. If you look your vehicle up after making an account with Toyota, it should break down how your vehicle was made

Yes, if you create an owner's account and add your vehicle. It should break down how it was built and all options included.

So I'll admit, I'd never looked but I just tried and it wasn't the easiest navigating Toyotas website. But with my vinyl loaded it gives me options and care specific to FFV. I know mine is FFV and that supports it.

You would think the dealer would have said something or I would have known I was buying a Flex Fuel Truck?

    :notsure:

I'm not going to make any assumptions about the knowledge they had.

In general it makes little difference as long as you don't run the cheap gas. Running normal gas you still do a 5k oil change interval.

It would really Tick Me Off if I was unaware I purchased a flex fuel model considering I was unaware it required different care than the standard model.

    The 5th letter is indeed a W....
I just cant believe they wouldnt have told me I was buying a Flex Fuel Truck when I had no intention of buying one!!!
I mean I really dont have an issue with it being a Flex Fuel Truck as long as my performance doesnt suffer because of it.

Where/when did you purchase the vehicle? Did you get a carfax printout? I seem to recall that info being present on a carfax, showing the motor as a 3UR-FBE denoting flex fuel, vs the 3UR-FE denoting non flex fuel. I’m sure that info can be obtain in other ways such as via a VIN search as @RobertD suggested.

I am not aware of all of the differences, but I’m fairly certain you will have a a different fuel pump and/or fuel pump relay with a high/low setting, different injectors, and a different ECU program that calculates ethanol percentage. Dig through the General Supercharger thread and you will find a few flex-fuel SC’d trucks. So it shouldn’t be a completely obstacle to supercharging as it once was.

Haha. Ya, I was lucky enough to get a non-flex fuel my first go round, and knew enough with the second go round to specifically look for/ask about a non-flex fuel truck.

There shouldn't be anything different about the core supercharger setup, your tune will just be slightly different and the kit I don't think comes with a fuel pump is the only real difference.

He said it required a different fuel pump if I remember correctly.
This is just something I wish I was aware of.
Would have been happier if I was Blissfully unaware I had a Flex Fuel Truck.

Non flex fuel needs a different pump, flex fuel doesn't for mild setups. Your kit probably came with a fuel pump that isn't needed. Should be a much cheaper install since they don't have to drop the tank.

    That would be nice....
But I highly doubt they're gonna tell me I could have saved a buck mechanic shops being mechanic shops.
At this point all I care about is my Truck gaining the performance I expected out of the Magnuson!!

To be fair the salesman probably had no clue either. Specific features it has/doesn't is up to the person buying it, dealership could care less.

Probably a lot of truth in that!!
I've known plenty of salesman my brother being one, that are kinda lacking in honesty if not brains.
Apologies to any salesman we may or may not have here.

Truth. My sales guy that I actually like to deal with doesn’t know much about tundras. He can only tell me what his paperwork says. Their listing for my truck said long bed four door but they hadn’t uploaded pictures yet. I was 100% sure it was a double cab but only 90% sure it was a 6.5’ bed. I called and asked him to go out and look at the truck to tell me if it was an 8’ bed or 6.5’ bed; he was off that day but looked it up and said ‘yep, it’s a long bed.’ I drove by the next day to see it was a 6.5’, which was fine by me.

But not being a truck guy or owning a tundra, he wasn’t well versed in what are now minutiael nuances…

Exactly. Can't know everything about every vehicle as a salesman. When I picked up my used 2018, I showed the salesman a few things I had read on here before buying. Good dude, but no expert on a Tundra.

Hmmm....the salesman I've dealt with were very knowledgeable for the most part.
Of course I always make it a point to shop for a new Truck on off days.

Luck of the draw sometimes. Last salesman when I got my 21 I could’ve quite literally punched in the face and not felt bad about it. He got the sale because it was 11/21 (10/21 build), and new 2.5G were drying up.

I didn’t know mine was flex fuel until I had OTT tune it. Still always ran the cheapest 87 I could find until I turbocharged. Other manufacturers will generally make the gas cap yellow to signify it. Toyota just uses regular black and has it printed on there in small print.

Nice thing is the flex fuel pump flows more than standard and you just need to jumper the relay pins to make it pump at the full 60psi.
