Tomorrow is the big day to start the great refresh. My local off-road shop is installing:
    • King 2.5 with remote reservoirs all around with 3" in the front. These were tuned by Accutune with the "Adventure" tune.
    • SPC UCA
    • Coachbuilder +3 shackles for a +1.75" in the rear
    • TOYO Open Country ATIII 285/70R18
Bumper and lights come in this week as well.

Let us know how you like the Toyo ATIIIs. Seriously considering them to replace my KO2s. Really curious about noise.

Actually I already have them on for about a month in a smaller size (275/70R18). I like them so much and wanted a bigger size (295). BTW, the 275’s will be for sale once they are pulled off.

I came from Nitto Ridge Grapplers which look great but get noisy over 20k miles. I had about 50k on them with still good tread left in them but they were so loud that I couldn’t take it anymore. On a 70mph coast they were registering about 72-73 decibels. The new Toyo atIII registered 63.

Today we had about an inch of wet snow and they handled it perfectly. Didn’t break loose once.

Thanks for this, exactly what I wanted to hear. I currently run 275/70r18 KO2s but planning my great refresh too and running 295/70r18s. My KO2s only have about 30k on them but have started breaking loose in rain a lot lately. They were good when I first got them and still have some tread left but wanting to step up in size when I get new coilovers.

sounds good. You may want to start sourcing the 295/70R18 now. A month or so ago they were hard to find. None of the distribution networks in my area (mid Atlantic) could get them. Had to go through Simple Tires eBay shop to get them out of Texas. They had them at my door in 3 days.

what coil overs are you thinking about going with?

Still undecided. The Ironman Pro setup has peaked my interest. I currently have 5100s all around. Trying to stay under 2k for coilovers and rear shocks. Also have Coachbuilder +2s that my wife bought me but haven't got them yet. I have looked at Toytec Aluma Series 2.5, OME, and 6112s. Can't really decide. On road comfort is important to me as well as mild off road capability.

Those are all good options. I'm coming from running the 6112/5160 combo. They ride a little on the firm side, but I was happy with them. They are at their EOL and I just wanted to try something new.

Yeah I'm leaning towards giving the Ironman Pro coilovers a shot because I've read they ride good on road and don't seem as stiff as the 6112 setup. I've run OME on another Tundra and it was a little stiff as well at low speeds but did great hitting bumps hard at higher speeds. So probably try something new as well.

Ok, first phase of the Great Refresh is complete.
    • King 2.5 with remote reservoir coilovers . Coilovers adjusted 2 turns more than factory showing 10 threads above the collar. 2 CB shims driver side, 1 passenger side
    • King 2.5 with remote reservoir shocks in rear
    • CB +3 shackles
    • SPC UCA
    • TOYTO atIII 295/70R18
I was aiming for a 3/1.75 lift but measurements show that I actually gained close to a 4/2 lift.

The ride is a night and day difference from the old 6112/5160 setup. So much smoother.

Also, the installation took the shop longer because they said removing the factory rear spring bushing for the CB shackles was an absolute nightmare.

Thank you... I agree that the spacers align the 295s just right with the +60 offset of the Pro wheels. Gives it a more appropriate +28 offset.

I see you mentioned you had 6112/5160's. Would you recommend I go with that setup or is the new setup with King's a "night and day" difference?

I’d be interested too. I put on the 6112s, definitely an upgrade from stock but stiff ride at 1.9” setting. Wondering if a high premium coil over setup makes a bigger difference.

There is a big difference between Kings and Bilstein. This is true with other high end brands as well (ie. Fox, etc). It kind of goes with the saying that you get what you pay for. The high end brands are designed and engineered to provide a higher performance and we pay for that quality. My Kings were tweaked even more with a custom tune from Accutune, thus providing the ultimate smooth ride.

Yes, I had the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup and I did like and enjoy them. They do provide a firmer ride, but I was ok with that. IMHO, the 6112/5160 provide a decent ride for the value of the cost. In other words, they are a good bang for the buck.

I don't normally go for the high end stuff like the Kings, but I have a condition that has a strong possibility of taking my sight within the next 10 years. Knowing my Tundra may be my last ride, my wife sacrificed to refresh the truck with the best ride.

In summary, I'd suggest going with the suspension that suits your lifestyle and budget. IF you do any wheeling but still use t the truck as a daily driver and can afford King/Fox/ABS then knock yourself out. If the budget is tighter, then there are lots of options such as Bilstein, Toytec, OME, Ironman, etc.
