And yet there are many here eagerly awaiting an updated Tundra drivetrain, complaining that the big 3 get the most recent technologies and updates. Toyota couldn't even get TSS right, a technology that has been out with other OEMs for quite some time. Not to mention all the gas mileage threads

I've still got my fingers crossed that TSS and other new tech will be options instead of standard equipment when the true gen 3's come out in a couple of years.

IM here after having to lemon my 1st and last Ford that i will ever buy. F150 3.5tt rattled like crazy from the cam phasors or timing chain everytime i let off the throttle. Noise started at 3k and i gave it back with 6.5k miles.

They can drive what they want and say what they want.

    9MM vs .45
    Ford Vs Chevy
They will hate the Japan truck because Merica! and when you show them that only 15% goes to japan they call you names.

I just tell them it is like politics. You wont change my mind without facts.

I’m like 99.9% sure it’s the same Raptor I saw based on the buildings behind the truck. What a trip. They had two cops cars there to assist traffic, one in front and one in back.

    Yep!

Ford salesman told me just last month they can last up to 120,000 miles before the turbo starts to go!

Seriously! I was like WHAT?! You're bragging about 120K miles?! With that same face in my avatar!

That sealed the deal on staying Toyota for me.

That and a transmission mechanic who advised against Ford and for good measure I called a buddy who has a close family member who can get him any Ford he wants for super cheap and has ALWAYS had Fords.... till a couple years ago! He said he'll never own another Ford...

For every person saying they have a problem on a forum there are tons more not on forums who have no issues. Not a Ford fan but know plenty of people with EB F150s with no issues. If you just went off of what you read on a forum every Tundra has leaking cam shafts and weak rusty frames. Plus they sell so many F150s that an issue is going to show up in a lot more trucks. Certainly no Ford expert but the only Ecoboosts I’ve ever heard of having a known turbo failure issue was the first version of the 2.7L EB.

I will pile on that the V6 is no bueno. However, between myself and my family, had 6 F150s that have had the 5.0, including current 2018 KR w 5.0 and they have been great engines. Trouble free. Can’t say that for any Ford V6 I’ve had though, only two and they both sucked.

V6’s just don’t belong in full size trucks. Unfortunately Toyota will probably be going that way.

At least an F150 you can order the right engine, it’s only about an extra $800.

The whole trend sucks. Also impossible to find compact or mid size SUV w a V6, they all have 4 now :(

I cannot generalize that all Ford trucks are bad. I have had 2 Tundra's in the last 4 years. An '11 that I put 45k on with no issues and my '16 that I've put about the same mileage on. My '16 had the cam tower leaks and now I think it has bad front ball joints at 54k.

I rented an '18 XLT 3.5 ecoboost with 30k on it for 4 days last week on a business trip. The seats were comfortable, the power was great, the ride pretty good, hated the steering, and the 10-speed transmission was clunky. I would not buy one.

Now, my company has a '12 and '13 regular V6 8ft bed work trucks. We put about 300k on them in 5 years and load them to the gill. We put extra leaf springs on all of them to help handle the excess weight and as a work truck I have to say they have been excellent. No engine issues, sometimes tranny problems but with the bed weights we are constantly putting in them I can't complain. Overall, great truck with good mileage. I think the Ecoboost stuff is where most of the problems lie.

Had a conversation with one of our Game Wardens. They drive F-150's for patrol vehicles. His 2018 is going in for a replacement motor. It was burning through a quart of oil every 200 miles. Ford's initial fix was to replace the pcv valve. They then etched the dipstick and told him to drive it around for a week or 200 miles. He puts 200 miles on his truck in a day. needless to say he proved the dealership that it was the engine. He was a die hard ford guy, (his brother works at a Ford dealership) but after checking out my Tundra he said for his next personal vehicle he's making the switch.

I think you owe it to yourself to do a bit more research on both sides of that coin:

-There have been substantiated issues with the early ecoboost engines: Direct injection gunking up the intake valves; oil pans leaking; timing chain issues; turbo's failing, condensation in the intercooler. Many of those issues have the potential to result in catastrophic breakdowns (meaning your truck is getting towed into a dealership). We know these are issues from the TSB's (manufacturer communications) listed on the NHTSA's website and because Ford has made changes over the years to address these some (not all) of these issues, like changing over to direct + port injection.

-The Tundra certainly isn't problem free, but it is without a doubt, more reliable and proven (according to any number of reliability surveys). Frame rust hasn't been an issue since the mid to late 2000's; anyone who brings up that issue as a detraction against the Tundra is out of the loop. Some Tundra's have leaking cam towers; there is no evidence that it is a widespread issue. Moreover, how many Tundra's have broken down and required a tow because of that issue? There are plenty of 5.7l v8 Tundra's with hundreds of thousands of miles at this point; if there were any major faults with the truck or the engine, we'd know about it by now.

    it's a discussion forum right?

Exactly. There is a reason there are nearly 1 MILLION F series sold vs 100,000 units of tundra (2018)

I'm a Tundra because my 2013 Fx2 5.0 had bad exhaust valves on the drive side at ~65k miles. 65,000 smooth not hard towing/loading flat Florida roads miles. Was it a good truck, sure, but in my entire life I've never had a have a major engine problem before payment 60 went out. First and last Ford. 2019 Tundra met/exceeded (FX2 Black/Apperance vs Plat) all the creature comfort of our Ford and added the safety features that were missing......minus the radar issue that mine isn't experiencing currently.

I see sooo many Raptors where I live, and I think "What a waste of money" every time. Not downing Ford, just that over-priced, over-hyped model.

Ball joints went out prior to 40k on the last F150 I owned. Ex drove it back worth to work mostly. When a Ford service manager said a lot of them don't make it to 25k I said I am not buying another F150. Of course this was one of many issues with the truck. I thought I had one brother converted last year but he went and bought another F150.

Well of course more sales equals better product.

We've seen that play out countless times over the years. In fact it's best to ignore specs and reviews and feedback and go directly to sales numbers when shopping for new vehicles.

But seriously the Fxxx family has WAY more models than any truck manufacturer offers so it figures they will have higher sales. I think Tundra is at the bottom of the class for sales. So by that logic you could argue EVERY brand and model is superior to the Tundra.

Most "guys on the street" I approached about their F150's specifically loved them BUT trade in every three years....

Dig deeper and you'll find lots of fleet sales of Fords as well. I don't think I've ever seen any Toyota as a government or official company vehicle. Fords especially goes out of its way to make such sales and these generally don't show up in reviews. Guys burn them out and swap for another; no monetary investment....

I understand the appeal of the Fords!~ Despite having a poor track record with them years ago I gathered they had significantly upped their game and worthy of serious consideration. But a few inquiries to those I know who were Ford enthusiasts and professional mechanics with no stake in the game steered me away in no uncertain terms. The kicker was the dealer bragging about 120K miles before turbo goes out!
