Woke up early and packed up the family for a week-long vacation in Florida. Headed to the airport and about 10 miles away my TPMS light comes on. There is really nothing around where we are so I kept going, but commented to my wife that it concerned me because I regularly check air pressure.

A couple miles further and I feel a light shake. Flip on my hazards and begin making my way to the shoulder, during which time I experience a complete blowout.

A UHP stopped as I was dropping the spare, I let him know we were trying to make a flight and he immediately started taking off the damaged wheel. His help greatly sped up the process and turned a really stressful situation into an only kind of stressful situation.

Crappy morning and I have a shredded tire to deal with when I return, but at least we made it to the airport in time.

Thanks to Officer Nick Swallow of the Utah Highway Patrol for being such a friendly badass.

Ha! I snapped a couple quick ones after lifting that steaming tire into the truck. Left a nice strip of melted rubber on my hand and up my arm. As I got on the shuttle all the suits looked at me like I had ebola.

There's always time for a quick pic!

Wow, I had no idea! I didn't even think to look him up. Google yielded images too, definitely the same guy.

I'm going to write a letter to the UHP to express my gratitude. Definitely a great guy.

You totally should. I try to offer great reviews to the people that serve our communities. I say we blow up their FB page with good reviews and comments.

I do not have road hazard certificates for these tires. I've never purchased them and other than this incident, have never needed them. Despite this, Discount Tire replaced this tire under partial warranty, pro-rating the cost of a new tire based on the amount of tread wear.

I had them mount my old good rear tire as a spare, and mount both my spare (brand new) and a brand new tire on the rear of the truck. The cost to buy the tire, mount and balance three tires, and then rebalance the fronts, was a whopping $121.

This is why I always have and will always continue to go to Discount Tire!
