    Hey folks,

I have owned a 2008 since new. I have generally been pretty hard on the truck, But its been a beauty. I feel like its going to start costing me money, Its in the shop right now getting some codes looked at.(They got cleared but the tech says the trans is likely to start having issues)Its always difficult to part with a vehicle that has been as good as this one has. Ordered a 2024 Limited TRD CM Hybrid. I feel like I will always miss the 5.7. I am in Canada so its going to be a while.

No offer was made. I am likely to be selling it privately when the new one shows up.

Is it worth fixing and keeping? Or at least getting a second opinion on? That would be very hard for me to part with, personally.

I am in Canada....get ready for long painful wait. I was 13 months and found the exact truck I ordered on a lot 7 hours from my house so went and grabbed it the next day ....cancelled my order and got my deposit back. FYI the truck has YET to show up at the dealer and thats 18 months in at this point.

    Hope you have better luck

Not sure if you have a dealer or a good local shop that looked at it... Getting a second opinion is a good idea.
I'd recommend going to a reputable local transmission shop.... (no nationwide chains)

They can at least quote the repair and offer alternative options like rebuilding the transmission if needed etc.
Most local guys and dealerships dont rebuild transmissions.

When you trade in a vehicle at the dealership do they take the trade in value and subtract that from the taxes you pay on the new vehicle?

I have the truck back, it seems to be working normally. Codes have been cleared. I got the "it might be fine, let us know if the code comes back" Which is fine, but it doesn't really give a definative answer. Based on that if the codes do come back I'll take it to a different place.

I would say its dependant on the dealer, and what they offer for the vehicle. You save the tax yes. But if you can get significantly more privately, it can potentially offset the tax savings and more.

On my 2016 the dealer offered $20k trade, CarMax $23.8k, sold it it for $28,100.
But I earned that money, between the scam artist and dealers offering cash, I must have gotten 70 BS calls.
I listed on AutoTrader($50) and Craigslist($5), took 7 days to sell. I was going to list on Ebay, but fees were ridiculous.

The $1250 I would have saved in tax would have cost me $6850 out of pocket.
There is something of value in the convenience of trading in but to me that is no more than a thousand bucks.

Loved my 08, hit two deer two weeks apart in December they totaled my truck, 285K miles. It ran great but front end could have used a refresh and the transmission was occasionally shifting weird. But a transmission was a lot cheaper than a new truck, f’in deer. Been driving a 23 limited since January and love it. Hated paying for it though LOL. The new one is awesome but Ill miss the old one. The new one is fantastic, I was skeptical on the engine but it is great, the transmission is awesome also. Super comfortable, and I really enjoy the new electronics etc.

My 08 Took a Flying turkey to lower left side of the truck, flew out of the ditch and just hammered my truck. Few grand at the body shop courtesty of insurance. It was ridiculous.

That is a beautiful truck. Possibly the best ever for the category.

Must be were you live because a a trade of $20-25K is $5000 in tax savings in Canada. I just went thru this as my trade wasnt recognized by the Provinicial government. Long fought battle I won

Well, I was fully planning on a Limted Crewmax TRD hybrid........And then I get chatting with the dealer. Turns out in about 6 weeks a white pro is showing up. I signed on the dotted line. Problem now is convincing the old lady to let me keep the 08.

That’s nothing for (150 thousand) miles on a Tundra.

If you put 10K in it that’s a hell of a lot cheaper than a 2024.

There will never be a half-ton pickup that compares to the 07-21 Tundra. It was a man's truck, reliable, capable, tough.

The 3rd gen is several years out from proving it's meddle...
