    Today, of all days, the truck will no longer go into 4lo. 2016 D-cab 4.6.
    It went it this morning to pack the 12 inches of snow down in my spot, and once more to break trail up a forest road. But after getting back down, it would not disengage from 4lo. Grinding gears, beeping. Finally got it to disengage. Read a bunch of threads, seems an actuator problem. I am still under power train warranty. Wish me luck.

    I have only have the truck for about 2 months and not changed it myself yet. 77k miles and original fluid maybe?

    The service advisor and technician had me watch them engage and disengage the transfer case to educate me, because it was apparently not doing it correctly..... only for it to refuse to go into 4hi, the refuse to disengage, then work and get stuck in 4lo before I just stepped back. Then I was told it was from the ice he found packed under the truck...? Needless to say, they kept it.

    I was there. Read thru and thru. All good info. The dealership fellas didn't seem to like being asked about specifics like which oil and miles of use per month. If I can get new parts under warranty, I am not picking up a wrench.

    Dealer confirmed it needs a transfer case actuator. Waiting on warranty approval

    No. Just telling me when under load, it fails and stops working. Warranty claim approved.
    Also telling me they have to pull the transfer case to repair it...?

    Yes. If the truck isn't in neutral, it won't cycle to engage.
    My best guess is that it was used very seldom in the past 75k miles.
    I asked for the old actuator and any parts they replace so I could take a look at them, hoping they let me have them.

    I would say the old parts are going back to Toyota for inspection.
