I'm at a loss. 2024 Tundra with 700 miles and the tailgate won't open. The relays click, the lights flash, fuse is good, but it don't open. No noise coming from the gate on either side. Anybody have any super secret trick before I have to schedule a day off to hang out at the dealership? Thanks.

We had that the first few weeks after a shaky OR drive. Had to shake it, to strongly push the tailgate left and right, and finally we were was able to open it. The issue was mechanical, not electrical. We are glad it did not happen again.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I've beat both sides of the tailgate hoping to free up a stuck latch but no luck. Didn't think of trying to go side to side.

I know some had issues with the tonneau covers holing it from dropping. Is that a possibility?

Not in this case. No cover on the bed.

It's not really a handle. It's that stupid electronic latch.

He is right have somebody give the tailgate a good kick and push from inside the bed. While clicking the button and shaking on the Outside. Sound ridiculously lousy for a new truck but it can work.

So I was by myself, but did try hitting the center of the inside of the tailgate with my hand a few times, and it did work after that. I agree, beyond unacceptable. Hopefully this is just a one-off and not a sign of things to come. I know every new vehicle will have its break-in but it's still frustrating. Thanks everyone.

I had that happen on my 2015 Tundra, turned out some gravel had been kicked up by the rear tires and lodged in the space between the tailgate and the bed at the bottom of the tailgate, once I took a stick and dislodged the gravel, tailgate worked just fine. Maybe you have something stuck there as well.

Mine sometimes sticks. I just have to pull it down with little force. It’s like the actuator needs adjusting.

I've never understood why something as basic as a tailgate needs to be assisted electronically in the first place. Tailgates should be secured with a section of chain and a latch, like the truck gods intended. ;)

I was close that. It's been one thing after another with this truck. First thing I've ever had new, maybe this is just how it works. I'm going to have to take it in for a few other things. I'll have them check adjustment then. Hopefully I don't get the old "couldn't duplicate" response.

Has anyone got an answer on this? Took mine in today and the dealer told me that I bent something but can't say exactly what it is. They want me to have it looked at by an auto body shop.

Took mine to the dealer. Once they got it to act up theu said it was a bad actuator in the tailgate. They replaced it and I haven't had any issues since. Mine has the electronic tailgate release. Not sure how you bend something you can't actually manipulate. Maybe you have a manual latch? I had 900 miles when I took mine in so it was pretty hard for them to say it wasn't a warranty issue.

I'm having the same problem. Took it down a bumpy gravel road then the thing wouldn't open. I had to force it a bit. THEN it didn't CLOSE. Forced it a bit again. I've taken it in for warranty and both the shop and the body shop have had a look at it and can't figure out what's happening.

If someone were to make a conversion kit for a manual handle, I imagine it would sell.

Bad actuator in mine. Took it a little while to get it to replicate but my dealership has been good so far. They kept trying, got it fail, replaced it under warranty and i haven't had issues since.

Doubt it's "normal" even it there have several instances. Probably more that don't have the problem. Anyway, the market says they want more gadgets and electronics, so that's what manufacturers are going to produce. With that comes a lot of bugs.
