I been sniffing around and found no info on how to remove the tailgate. Was the tailgate not meant to be remove quickly?

I ride a few motorcycle onto the ramp resting on the tailgate and no issue so far but I'll be transporting heavier bike this time so I want to remove the tailgate just be safe.

There’s a plug that goes to your camera so unplug that then it’s just a matter of opening the tailgate and lifting it up and away (after detaching the cables on either side)

I saw wires going from under the truck into the bottom of the tailgate. They look well protected so I didn't mess with it.

Guess I'll look again :) Is the plug located on the tailgate or underneath the truck?

In fact, tailgate removal is so easy and fast that there is a thriving market for stolen tailgates. Just look at c list. Replacing a late model tailgate with the camera ain’t cheap neither

I added the pop and lock, so it locks with the truck plus added a lock that goes around the removable hinge side

Gonna do both of those soon. Already have the pop and lock but need to install it. I’m sure there’s nothing to it.

The wire colors to connect to in the cab were reversed from what they said in the instructions. Do a quick test before you commit to your final splice.

Check the YouTube video on it. They were behind passenger side kick panel in cab. I went through rubber plug in floor. Plenty of wire for it. I did reverse wires as stated above. Just swapped them at lock itself. Put some grease on it before buttoning up the tailgate panel.

Cool. We installed my buddy’s AMP steps so I’m pretty familiar with the wiring behind both kick panels.

Good to know about locking the tailgate.

I found a plastic connector in my glovebox to be used when removing the tailgate to protect the camera connections.

    A bunch
The Tundra tailgate is the trickiest one I've had to take off because of the damper on the driver side. Taking it back up to nearly closed is a must, it's not like other one's I've done where once the passenger side is off the driver's side slides off easy.

The lock for the tail gate (keep it from easily being removed) is a $2 purchase from homedepot and takes 5 minutes to install... (not sure about the size)

you put it on the side that comes out first. the thought is crooks will not likely mess with it if they have to pull out tools - not as "easy in easy out"

Pop lock took me about 1.5 hours total. I spent too much time routing wire under the truck...
I always kept my tailgate locked. Which meant I'd have to grab the keys when I wanted to drop it. usually they were already in the ignition. Major point of frustration for me. $100 was well worth it!
Wires were reversed from what the instructions say to what actually operated the actuator correctly (as gosolo said) on my 2017 SR5 CM. EDIT: It's a quick fix though, just swap the connection at the actuator Red to Black and Black to Red (or whatever colors they used)
