So one annoying thing is that my tailgate is really hard to open. You have to really pull on the handle hard. I'm assuming this is not normal. There is a factory installed power tailgate lock in it which maybe needs adjustment but not sure. Anyone else have similar experience?

    Too many, but not enough....
You may have an alignment issue with the retention hooks that the truck bed locks onto when you close it. try checking the alignment on them. My old ranger had this, I had to jiggle the handle while opening and when i adjusted the hooks, maybe a 1/8" it would open easily.

Hmm, not sure how to adjust that. I'll have to take a look but we're getting a snowstorm later and it's cold lol so maybe next week.

Push the tailgate in when you pull on the handle. If it's easier to pull the handle to open, you have an alignment issue like @MadMaxCanon said. Adjustment is super simple

This is definitely the issue. Opens much easier when I push in. Do you adjust the latch or the catch on the bedside? The latch looks like it would be a pain to adjust.

Honestly don't remember but I think the latch and it's a T40 bit.

I would say loosen the catches, close the tailgate with them loose and then that will tell you where they need to be, then tighten them while the tailgate is closed.

I had a similar issue. I took the plate off the back of the tailgate and cleaned the grime off the handle and it is easier to open. My kids even think it’s a new part but I just cleaned it.

Open the tailgate, loosen the catches on the bedsides and pull 'em toward the back a little

831tun I was stumped on how to tighten them with the tailgate closed
Mine sticks on the right side. I though it was the decked hook pulling the tower, but not really. When I push into the catches, I get little resistance on the left, but almost a bind on the right. I will try adjusting tommorow. Thanks
