Tailgate collapses under my own feet?? WTF

I was loading a 60" bathroom vanity into my 2017 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and as I was lifting I could feel my tailgate start to collapse under my feet. I was standing at the inner edge next to where it pivots and now there is an obvious indentation where I was standing. I am shocked at how flimsy the tailgate is and really starting to feel like maybe the Tundra was a bad choice. Imaging if I put a real load into the bed?

Has anyone else experience this and does Toyota stand behind this?

Take in to Toyota and see what they say about it, if they arguing that’s normal bed use, go get it line x ed.

And on the tail gate, ya the cover piece is a little flimsy due to the fact it’s removable, personally, I don’t like standing on my tail gate at all. I’ll sit on it, but I won’t lift anything from there.

Maybe I'm wrong, but whether you are standing or sitting, don't you weigh the same? Now, you apply different amount of pressure per square inch one vs the other, but weight has to be the same.

I've heard of issues with people hauling their quads with 2 wheels on the tailgate, but nothing from someone standing on it. I've had a 3-400 lb gun safe on my tailgate and it held up fine. I also have LineX liner.

My Tundra's tailgate has always felt solid. My Tacoma's tailgate on the other hand, I always felt like it was going to break when I was standing on it. Never actually had an issue, but always felt like it was about to go.

mine's aaaall fucked up, but it's a truck, it gets dents 'n stuff. I've had about 600 lbs on it (3 guys) and it held just fine.

FWIW almost every tailgate i've ever seen is like this...not just the yotas

I have had the same problem when walking on my tailgate. I could feel it start to dent under my feet (no issues walking on the bed though). Sitting on it has not been an issue.

Pretty much what others have said. I’ve loaded my ATV several times in the bed and never noticed any issues. I’m a big guy and use my tailgate to get in and out of the bed, no problems so far.

No problem with mine and I put a ton of weight on it with wood a sofa and a office desk. My bed and tail gate are linex though got that shortly after I bought the truck. Wife and I sat on it watching fireworks and not an issue.

I agree with Indytundra. I have a 2002 Tacoma and a 2015 Tundra. If you stand with one foot carrying a heavy object and stand in the middle of one of the "plates" you will feel it sink in slightly. I have had to remove the tailgate inner cover to push out a small dent on both trucks that had Linex on from the first week I bought them. 1995 Tacoma had same soft spot in the panels over the lock assembly .

I wish! Would get one custom made but I'm afraid it'd be at least $750. Deezee makes one for the big 3... maybe it's time to look closer at it however when I emailed them, nobody replied. It's one of the things I want most for my truck.

I'm surprised to hear this about the tailgate, my tundra is my work truck so its used pretty hard and I haven't had an issue yet. Mine does have the factory bed liner so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I haul a Suzuki King Quad at least 1 time a week in mine with the rear wheel riding on the tail gate. Normal scratches but no other issues. I have the CM so it's a short bed and I regularly haul stuff with the gate down.

Not looking just guessing. Custom rates are expensive! Plus the annodizing as i think paint would wear off easily. Maybe if i ever get some free time i will call some shops and get some quotes but thats why i keep waiting for a company to make these to be affordable.

I think the biggest difference is the bed liner
