    I just had two 10” JL’s put behind my rear seat. My 9 year old daughter loves bouncing to the bass while sitting back there.

    Those are great options depending on your needs and budget. I found 1 quality 8” was plenty for me. I used a JL audio CP108LG-W3v3. I later added a second one just because I came across a good deal on one. A second didn’t make much difference. They fit perfectly behind the rear seats. Pretty easy to come across.

    What's that sound deadening material behind the seat? Plus the box is bolted to it? Please explain the setup.

    If you google JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 they’ll come up. There’s some deals on used ones on eBay, local audio shops that carry JL, or wherever you find the best deal online. The box is ported and built by JL just for that speaker. It’s a loaded enclosure.

    I’m not the guy you quoted, but what you’re seeing above the box looks like the factory sound dampening behind a gen 3 crewmax seats.

    Stereo upgrades: -HU, Pioneer Mvh bs501 -Tweeters, Peerless(vifa) XT25SC90-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator s in custom pods. -Mids, Silver Flute W17RC38-04 6.5" Wool Cone Woofer. -Subwoofer, American Bass XR12. 2.3^3ft tuned @33-34 hz. -Tw Amp, Old School 2ch Sony. -Mids Amp, Old School Autotek Sx275. -Sub Amp, Old School Memphis 16-pr1.1000 -Zero gauge big 3. 0 and 4 gauge copper runs to amps.
    Doubling the cone area (I.e. adding a second sub) while using the same available power adds about 3dbs. Doubling the power and cone area will gain 6dbs.

    It takes a surprising amount of power and subwoofer cone area to really impact the overall output.

    3db is what most people perceive as a slight increase in volume. Basically it take a lot to get a significant increase in output.

    I just ordered a full audio kit from James at tech12volts. Jbl amp, 2 jbl 10s, all new component speakers, wiring etc for under a grand

    I agree with everything you said. My truck is a 14. When I bought it in 2014 there weren’t many options that would fit behind the crewmax rear seats. Custom installers near me wanted a fortune to build something. At the time I wanted to keep the stock head unit. Now that it’s freezing up an upgrade may be in my future. I thought the initial suggestions would be pricey, but that actually seems very reasonable.

    I’m not the guy you quoted either, but if the kinda useless white padding is removed from that black factory backing, it leaves room for butyl and MLV deadening. Do the doors, and if adventurous the floor and roof too. I didn’t do the last two and it still made a huge difference in reduced noise and further enjoyment of music.

    That’s the mat that is behind the seat stock. I added sound deadening and closed cell foam and put the stock rubber mat back. Box isn’t bolted. It fits perfectly behind the seat. It doesn’t move at all once the seats bolted in place.

    For you all that added subs but kept the remaining speakers...are you only adding an amp for the subwoofer or did you boost the power for the whole shebang? I'd rather not fool with the component speakers if I don't have to. I really just feel like I'm missing a bit of low end to really fill out the music.

    Looking for guidance to add a single sub under the passenger side of my double cab rear bench seat so I keep the bigger storage area (I have the storage bins). I've heard the JL 8" ACP108LG-W3v3 fits nicely if you pull the storage bin out. Looks easy, already powered, just needs a simple install. Any other recommendations?

    Last week, I installed Pioneer TX-WX130WD, 8 inch powered sub under the passenger seat. I got non-JBL factory amp under the passenger seat. I just bought harness extensions with necessary breakouts on it. And connected all the wiring from the sub such as left right speaker wires, constant 12V, switched 12V and ground with that breakouts. No modification on truck side wirings. Total I spent is $250+. I can trust Pioneer sound. Works very well to my liking.

    Forgot to add, I got 4 Kicker speakers on all doors before this addition.

    I chose a Pioneer Sub based on the ability to reproduce great sound space in my cabin. It is one of the best system in the market. 4 Kickers and this Pioneer can reproduce similar sound space that my headphone, Sennheiser can. That is my goal. If your goal is to have large WATTs rather than better music space then better choose other system like you suggest.
