    Hey guys,

I hope I am posting this to the right place. I originally had a Pioneer touch screen head unit with GPS navi, but it was older, it didn't have any sort of bluetooth, and the GPS was slow and outdated, so I bought a new Android head unit. I have done many head units and sound systems in my day, but I am really, really, struggling with my Tundra.

I have an Axxess box behind the Pioneer HU, which tells me it is JBL-amped. I've been trying for the last 6 hours to figure out the wiring, nothing seems to be working, and I don't want to go all the way back to the main harness. The Axxess box is a TYTO-01, I wanted to utilize the serial cables to plug directly into the back of the new HU and wire up the ACC/IGN/12V Constant etc separately. Is this even possible? What would be the easiest solution to get this wired up? Unfortunately, I took a picture and then realized the picture wasn't good enough for me to work with after I started working, rookie mistake I haven't made in almost 7 years.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I seen this diagram as well, I'm going to dive back into it as soon as FL daylight hits at about 7AM, hoping maybe a clear mind will help. I could just be frazzled because this truck is my first truck, my dream truck, the first time I've ever used my credit to get a vehicle so it means a lot to me. I'll be in touch throughout the day, I truly appreciate any and all the help from the community, I look forward to posting pictures after the mod is done! ;)

So here's what I got left.. black should be ground, coming from the truck harness side of the adaptor, the tan should be constant, red is my accessory IGN and black should be my ground, but the hu doesn't seem to be kicking on :annoyed:

I would be really careful with all those exposed wires on those crimp connectors. I know it's not any help to your problem but if one of them shorts out you could do a lot of expensive damage.

Yeah, my concern is doing damage that is going to be more expensive, it's probably going to be killer to take it to an audio store as it is lol guess I should have thought a little more cautiously!

I think there comes a point in every man's life where his pride gets the better of him, today was that day for me. I'm going to go to rolling sound and beg them to help me and just pay whatever they are asking, at this point it's the safest way of doing this, and I don't want to hurt Tidra any more :help:

Do you have a meter of any kind????

Sounds like you need to be sure where switched and constant power is first if its not turning on and work from there?

So Tidra is currently in the hands of Rollin' Sounds on Lem Turner in Jacksonville, he could have really, REALLY punished me for my lack of knowledge and amateur work, but he's actually not charging me a lot to fix it. It's going to be $87 in labor, and I told him beings I'm bringing him a mess, if he prefers to completely revamp using a new Axxess kit, I'm more than willing to pay him for his convenience working on my girl. I guess I thought maybe this was a stock head unit, but from what Duval said at the shop, it looks like the work was professionally done, and only a professional would have known it wasn't stock. It really truly puts into perspective how much care goes into their work, the previous installers did such an amazing job, I literally thought it was all stock wiring when I started diving in, until of course wires didn't start matching the harness, and I couldn't go back any further, I just didn't have it in my heart.

One of the ways people learn is by doing it themselves. I wouldn't give up all together on doing more work in the future but I would learn how to solder and what heat shrink is for starters. Nothing to feel bad about, you tried and you got in a little too deep. You knew when to stop and, from the sounds of it, you didn't let any smoke out of the Tundra or the head unit. So all and all it's a good day. Plus you met a new friend who can help you down the road if you want to make any upgrades. I'm sure if you buy stuff from them and ask how to install it they will give you advice. If you still aren't able to do I'm sure they will finish it off.

Years ago I happened to become friends with two guys who did auto detailing and custom stereo installs. They knew a lot more than most as to what was quality and what was over priced junk. I ended up getting some amps through them that I never heard of. But when on vacation I happened across a stereo contest and even though I couldn't get close enough to read the name on the amps I quickly realized they were the same brand and model they sold me. Of course this was before the name brand companies took over and started sponsoring people.

Oh absolutely! I got my truck back around 2 this afternoon, the head unit is absolutely amazing, and for the price I have nothing but great things to say about it. I talked to Duval at Rollin sound and he said if I ever have questions and buy equipment from them he is willing to help me out, he said Toyotas can be specifically tough because there's a lot of extra wires that you might not need when converting to a different head unit, like the new head unit only needed one harness, gps antenna and wifi/USB outputs versus the four gps antennas from pioneers almost decade old Tom Tom system.

All in all, today was a good day. I was given the choice to use a new modern axxess adapter, and because I bought the adapter Duval knocked forty bucks off labor, he specifically recommended this because the old axxess box was chopped, and with a new box it limits possibilities of a connector coming lose, and it'll make it easier for me to do soft upgrades in the future myself.

A picture of the head unit, and the wife before she wanted to kill me for chopping up Tidra

I think mechanically in this situation I'll be a little better off until I learn some techniques and more complex wiring on newer model vehicles like Dr_Al said, I won't get intimidated and give up, but I was definitely knowledge checked by Tidra, and got very lucky to make friends with some very professional and understanding individuals at Rollin Sound!

And do you have a Meter of some kind?

Was there an issue not having the ability to know for sure where the power was hot?
