Streaming devices (Firestick, Roku, etc.)

Well gents I just picked up a Roku, it's my first streaming device and I'm trying to figure out what my best options are to get some decent TV/Movies without paying too much. I was thinking of Amazon Prime for the Video part, bonus would be Music and free 2 day shipping.

I found a few decent free streaming channels, but I'm sure someone on here will have some good advice....

 

Amazon stick works great. Specially if you already have a Amazon Prime account.

 

Amazon fire stick...research, download and install the Kodi app. You'll get just about everything...and I mean, everything

I had heard they are starting to crackdown on illegal builds being used through kit I. Supposedly Hulu Netflix and some other streaming company are filing class action lawsuits

 

Amazon prime is a good option, it has many benefits. I know crackle has movies and shows but they have ads

 

I want to drop Comcast and go this route. My main question is how do I get sporting events? NFL NBA etc.

 

I already have the Roku so I'm probably going to stick with it. Maybe I should have asked before I went with it and checked out the Firestick instead.

I may give the Amazon Prime free trial a go. Besides streaming TV, I am also looking for a good product to stream music, but one that allows some off line listening too. I am hoping Prime can get the job done.

I did some research on Kodi and the legality stuff turned me away, though I have no idea what it is or how it works so I need to look more into it.

 

I did get Crackle and from what I tried I did see a few ads. Not a big deal, especially for free.

 

I work on those connected devices from time to time. For ease of use I have Roku and Fire TV first followed by Apple TV.
+1 on Kodi for Android based devices.
Lots of apps with free live streaming: ABC, CBS..etc..
Also get an indoor off air antenna so you can watch your local news for free with even better quality than your cable/satellite offering

I have an android TV and Apple TV. Since I have Apple iPhones if I want to mirror my phone to the TV I have to use the Apple device. I just recently downloaded Kodi and mobdro on to my Sony Bravia. I get everything. It's a little bit of searching but you can find almost anything on these two apps. Just do YouTube either one of those along with the name of the device you're trying to put it on whether it be your phone or TV and there will be a tutorial of how to do it. A lot of these guys just like to hear themselves talk so you might have to fast forward the videos a bit but I got it done.

 

and it works great. Off air video quality is better than compressed video from cable/satellite.

Amazon sells some packages with their Fire Tv where you can get the small indoor antenna.

 

I've got Amazon prime but I am not happy with the free movies they offer for prime users. The older movies are usually poor quality prints, hard to watch and the newer offerings just don't appeal to me, not very good movies. You don't get all the movies offered by Amazon when you have Prime, just a limited selection of available movies.

Netflix is my go to for good movies and shows, watch it all the time.

There are quite a few free channels but usually not very appealing shows and movies.

 

I just dropped Comcast due to my bill going up again. I picked up an outdoor HD antenna and an amplified splitter to feed all the TVs in my house. I was able to get 27 channels including all local OTA HD from CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox. That should cover most sports excluding MNF on BSPN.

I have Amazon fire tv's in every room of our new house. I dropped cable and signed up for PlayStation Vue streaming service. For $35 a month I couldn't be happier. Never going back to paying $100 plus for tv again.

 

DIRECTV NOW is another option. They have a good deal going on if you are an AT&T unlimited wireless customer.
