    Anyone else? It seems silly but if I go to the Toyota parts website to look at accessories by VIN it says that I don't have a valid Toyota VIN. Then when we got that tonneau cover recall, I checked the Toyota recall website which, again, doesn't know my VIN... "not a Toyota, Lexus or Scion VIN". When I was speaking to Toyota about the tonneau cover fiasco, I mentioned this and they researched it and the best they could come up with is that it may take a couple of months to be reflected in their systems. I asked how that could be when the NHTSA recall website already knows it? They were clueless.

    And more data mysteries... in the Toyota app, that correctly reflects my VIN, if I drill down into the vehicle details it lists the paint color as "Urban Khaki" and not Lunar Rock as on the window sticker. And it lists my double cab as "c cab" which can only mean crew cab. What a cluster f, LOL.

    Yeah the parts guy couldn't find my vin either lol but it's so interesting that the app has the vin activated and not their database lol.

    Exactly... and when you order parts on the Toyota site it specifically asks for your VIN in the final order process to make sure you get the right parts. In theory, anyway.

    c cab = double cab
    d cab = crew cab

    toyota labels cab configurations as letter codes

    a=single cab
    b=ext cab
    c=double cab
    d=crew cab

    your cluster is you dont understand toyota's system. not toyota's fault you have no clue.

    OK, fine, lets call a double cab a "C" cab and a crew cab a "D cab". Who makes this stuff up? LOL. And it seems silly to use arcane internal codes in a customer facing application. IMO.

    its because toyota cabin configs where defined by the old toyota trucks from the 80's and toyota just expanded on it since then when the ext cabs came along.

    then the tacoma double cabs came along, and then the tundra crew cabs.

    you should have seen the 2.5 gen and 3rd gen thread on the running boards and people getting confused when the box with the running boards had them stamped as D Cab on the box for crew cabs. and even clueless toyota parts people were sending them back thinking they were Double cabs when they were crew cabs.

    That makes sense, Toyota changing the cab naming scheme after the Tacoma AC and DC era to go along with the more conventional usage of other mfgs. You have to wonder if not editing the databases to retrofit the designations internally might have been cheaper and caused less confusion... but we'll never know.

    if i remember correctly, ram introduce the mega cab for those in the back seat to gain an extra 2.5 inches of leg room compared to the crew cab configs.
