I’m looking to upgrade my stereo and speaker system from stock. I am of course trying to spend the minimum amount of money without buying complete junk. I am currently looking at getting the boss BCPA 10 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08V36PHDL?_encoding=UTF8
Does anyone have any speaker systems they recommend. I am hoping to buy everything in a kit but if not I’ll get the speakers individually. I’m not looking for anything too fancy and expensive . Just an crisper upgrade over the stock system. Also, I’ve looked on the crutchfield website but I find it to be very confusing.

12” Bulletproof Lift, AFE CAI, AFE Exhaust, rock lights, Fas-Top tonneau and soft topper, Dasaita 10.2” radio, light bar, ditch lights, LED headlights and fog lights, LED interior lights, Amp Research rear bumper step, dashcam, BT ODBII reader and Torque app on radio
FWIW, I’ve heard pretty bad things about BOSS. I was even recommended not to buy them by Crutchfield. They are actually in my hometown and have a factory store.
I ended up going with the Dasaita Android unit (they don’t sell) and love it. A few quirks, but nothing I can’t live with. The Joying is another solid option if you’re looking for a large display that won’t break the bank.
    Not sure on speakers.

Depends on why you want to upgrade the system. I had the JBL version and I was pretty disappointed with it stock.

Personally on a limited budget (without knowing your limit) I would probably either upgrade the head unit or keep the speakers but I would probably not do both. I kept my head unit and upgraded everything else and am happy with it but my upgrade wasn't cheap. I know a few folks kept their stock speakers and swapped the head unit only, this may only be viable for the JBL setup.

As far as vendors, folks seem to be happy with tech12volts and OEM+

Thats gonna be garbage, but i guess its subjective. If you are at all serious about the sound coming from the stereo, i would plan on spending around $600. Just get something from kenwood or pioneer with wireless android auto or wireless carplay.

Thank you for the responses. I’m hoping to not go over $300 in speakers (I don’t really know what’s budget priced and what’s not) but would still like to pay as little as possible. I was also hoping to have a volume knob, though I am willing to go without it. Are there any nicely priced CarPlay units that check those boxes? Sony? Jensen?

I’m with @Danimal86 - I would stick with Kenwood, Pioneer, or Alpine. I went with Kenwood and have been happy.

My boat came with a Sony HU that needed to be retired because it couldn’t put out a clean audio signal. Replaced it with Wetsounds.

does the 2009 SR5 have the amp under the front seat? I would assume it does. You might be able to replace the amp and be OK.

Honestly, if you're going to replace the speakers and not amp them with a decent amp, then don't replace them at all.
You notice little difference by simply replacing the speakers. Replacing the head unit with a nice one will wake the system up. Night and day difference. My new head unit woke my speakers up. Replacing the stock speakers did very little, and I was disappointed I spent the money. When I went from an SR5 to a Pro, I left the stock speakers in, added a new head unit and some subs and I am completely happy.

I'd remove them from the budget and shift those funds into a nicer head unit.

I have never heard anything good about Sony from installers to users. I also never heard anything bad as well. I feel they use their name to play into a higher end market. Whatever you choose, it will be better than stock.

Plenty of people using wireless carplay/android auto.

There's a filter on crutchfield for wireless apple carplay, it really depends on your budget. I've always been a pioneer guy on previous cars, but switched to the Kenwood DMX1037s and i'm never going back.

Two trucks ago I installed a Kenwood multi-entertainment HU and it worked flawlessly for years. My second choice would have been Pioneer but the Kenwood unit had better reviews and more features.

The thing that sold me was the HD screen, All the others had SD screens.

I connected an oscilloscope to the kenwood and with a 1khz 0db test tone, it does not clip at max volume. Clean signal!

I have done a ton of stereos in all of my vehicles over the years (I am 51 years old). Please, take my advice and do NOT cheap out. You will only be swapping out one crap system for another. When I purchased my 2018 Tundra, I had to drive it for damned near a year, before I could afford ALL of the equipment that I needed to do a complete system swap: Kenwood Excelon H/U, Kenwood Excelon component door speakers, JL subs, Tech12Volts sub box, Infinity amps, iDatalink Maestro, 100% Oxygen-free copper wiring (VERY IMPORTANT), sound proofing all doors, floor and rear wall, custom amp rack under rear seats. I suffered through one year of absolute shit sounding music, all to pay for an incredible system that I have now enjoyed for almost 2 years. You have a $40 to $50k truck. Why are you going to equip it with crap? I promise, you will be sooooooo much happier if you just save your money (or buy each component one at a time) until you have a truly bad ass system that will get you excited each time you climb up into the cockpit!

Glad I saw your post, I just picked up my Pro today and was blown away by how bad the system sounds next to the AT4 I traded with the Bose. That system sucked too, but not like this one.

I had already ordered a Kenwood DNR 1007, but after hearing the speakers, thought those needed to go as well. I have 2 JL 10's laying around from my old ZR2, I was wondering what a new HU and those might sound like. Thoughts? I'm not an audiophile, but I like to drown the world out from time to time.

Turns out they are Pioneer. I've got a JL 10 inch in a smaller box from my 4Runner somewhere, at least I think it's JL. 20210819_232624.jpg

So I found the JL's, not sure what they are. Is there a cheap box and amp combo you would recommend for either set?

I would contact James at tech12v. Everyone has good things to say about him and he always seems to supply product cheaper than what you can source it. I believe he offers quite a bit more than listed on his website.

All the units I was considering (Alpine Halo9, Kenwood 1007xr, and others) are all sold out everywhere. With the exception of the jacka moles that are adding $300-$400 on top of the already stupidly exorbitantly high prices.

I bought a display model (at 10% off), call around to your local audio shops, you can find one.
