My wife just bought a 2010 Tundra two weeks ago. All was fine, till we noticed the steering wheel was way off center when it was perfectly centered before. Knowing it could not be anything to do with alignment, I went straight to the steering wheel. This is what I found out, there is a steel ring with splines in the center of the aluminum wheel skeleton that splines to the steering shaft. That steel ring is spinning inside of the aluminum skeleton. Is this common? Known recall? This would seem to be very dangerous to find this out at 80mph. I will be replacing the steering wheel of course.

This same thing happened in my 04 4Runner but it happened when I was installing a lift kit. I’ve messed with my suspension several times now on the tundra and I haven’t seen this happen yet so I’m not sure it’s a common issue. I had to take the 4Runner to get aligned several times to get it squared away.
