I have a 2015 1794 that has had an issue with a clunking feeling in the steering when making hard turns at slow speed in gravel parking lots.

I thought it was a bad tie rod but replaced them both and that is not the issue. The steering does feel better and tighter though. I did some research and found a little bit on line about guys greasing the steering column but can’t find any pictures or videos on exactly where they are greasing it.

i really believe it is in the column somewhere but trying to avoid the whole “can not duplicate” at the dealer. Trucks not under warranty so i’m not just going to let them keep it until they find out what is wrong.

it is more annoying than anything. The truck has 34’s and a leveling kit on it which probably exaggerates the clunking.

Any thoughts or help is appreciated.

I have read about some bad bushings, if I remember correctly, they are part of the steering rack mounts. Might also want to jack up the to truck and check out ball joints and bearings really well. If not sure check out some YouTube on the process.

    Tastefully enhanced...
Behind the knee panel by the steering column, the shaft goes thru a poly bushing in the middle of the shaft and then onto thru the firewall...dry graphite / white lithium grease / silicone will help a bit...most if the time, the steering rack bushing get worn out faster trying to move heavier tires...replace with poly bushing if you can...but always try the easiest/cheapest fixes first!

Edit: Made the explanation make more sense : Damned early morning auto-corrects!
