My 2009 Tundra 5.7 L. (246,000km) is having starting issues. I found a couple old posts but nothing very recent.
It started last fall. I changed engine oil. Started truck after I was done and it ran for bout 10 seconds and shut off. Turned key again and it turned over and over and over but wouldnt start one bit. Left it for 10 minutes and then it started fine. Was good for one more month no issues then did it again. I replaced the battery because it was 6 years old and didnt do well on load test. Another month passed and it did it again. I read some posts suggesting it may be the fuel pump relay. Replaced that and a few weeks later it did it again. Its becoming more frequent now. Did it last week and today when it did it it would run for 3 seconds and shut off. Run for three seconds and shut off. I dont believe its a fuel issue cause it turns over with not even a sputter and I cracked the fuel line at manifold and fuel came out. After sitting a few minutes it starts up no problem like nothing ever happened.
Its not throwing any check engine codes and the immobilizer light is not on like its a key problem. Any help appreciated! I have a video but not sure how to post it on here. Thanks

Clean mass airflow sensor? Check airbox for blockage? Maybe running out of air. Pull of intake tube and unplug mass airflow and try to start. You can have a helper spray some fuel in the intake with a spray bottle and see if it will keep running too. Just cuz fuel is at the rail doesn't mean injectors are not clogged or malfunctioning due to rodent damage to wiring.

Tried a different key? Maybe the security chip is wigging out intermittently.?

Well I was wondering that. Anyone know if your chip is starting to fail will the red antitheft light still stay off?

I believe that IS a thing.

My red antitheft light does turn off after the engine is started. Let me know if you need the exact point where it turns off.

The more I think on it, I think it is running out of fuel. Considering it was progressive and the age/mileage, I think the fuel supply screen/pump is clogged/weak, simply not enough supply to meet the demand.

But its not acting like its sputtering and slowly dies. It is a dead stop. I pulled the fuel pump relay and started it trying to re enact the problem and it ran for several seconds then slowly sputtered and died. I can hear the pump running when I had my son turn the key over as well.

If you have a remote start or hyperchip try disconnecting them to eliminate them.

I'm curious, but I wonder if it either the purge valve solenoid or the charcoal canister is bad. not implying that you might overfill your gas but a lot of people tend to squeeze a dollar or more into the tank and what happens is fuel gets into the canister and purge valve. only vapor are suppose to be in those not fuel. It doesnt hurt to try swapping the purge valve from autozone and see if that works. a little over a hundred dollars but it worth a shot. very easy change. and if it is it, the auto part has lifetime warranty, and if not well you can return it.

majority of time it does, p0445 for loose gas cap, but when people check their cap its not the issue. so people get lost on what to do. i kept digging and found someone told me to change the solenoid. You might be right that i could be leading you off to something else, but its a cheap part until you get somewhere even more expensive, the fuel module system, the fuel pump. im not saying the fuel pump is bad, but the electrical side or wiring could be bad... something is cutting off your fuel not sure what it could be. check your battery terminals too while you are there clean it with some scotchbrite and maybe. sometimes it better to get a professional to diagnose the issue and then change the part yourself.

Had a similar issue thought it was my battery, keys/ fob, and/or auto start. Issue ended up being the ignition fuse.

Whatever happened with this? I’m checking for a friend with an 08, 5.7 his will start, then die, start again die….once it does this he waits 10-15 minutes, it starts up and away he goes just fine. This does not happen every time, just random, he can be out and about, stop at a store then go to leave and ….she dies. Or can be first thing in the morning on a cold engine, so its not temperature related.

Wouldn't that throw a code and light up the check engine light?

Not necessarily, especially if its glitchy. Ive seen a car idle for hours while being diagnosed with no engine code. Then boom it died and the diagnostic machine caught it. Engine code never popped up. New crankshaft sensor and fixed.
