Start, no start

    Inherited a 07, 5.7, 2wd with 68K. (Don't believe mileage is true by seat wear, stained carpets, somewhat dirty looking engine, and did a Blackstone oil analysis.) Drove it 500 miles to its new home with approximately 500lbs cargo. Got 18mpg average. Had no service records. Drove it for approximately 500 more miles over a period of 2 months and twice it would crank but no start, come back next day, start fine. Then the 2nd time, 2 attempts to start, 3rd attempt started just fine. Few days later, service light started flashing last week. Did a oil, filter change along with a pretreatment of ATS fuel carbon clean and oil engine cleaner. 3 days later engine would start and Rev up to 2k rpm and die like it ran out of gas. Tried 1/2 dozen times wouldn't stay running. I'm thinking fuel pump but there's no loss of power or stalling while driving but fuel mileage dropped 2gpm also. So folks said on net clean pcv valve and the mass flow sensor. I also cleaned the throttlebody which none appeared very dirty. After that started great, although I noticed idle rpm in park around 1k. Ran and started fine every day for a week then the other day it took 4 tries for it to start. Got it home and there it sits till I figure it out, hopefully not throwing tons of money after it chasing it down and losing my hair. It also has new Interstate battery. Normally I would think if it was a camshaft sensor, I assume it has 2, it would set off a check engine light. On my 2014 impala, which has 4 it did set off a check engine light. Which I know they can be very finicky. Even dirty oil or high rpms can set them off.

    Explain service light? You mean Maint Reqd light? Or Check Engine light? Assuming it has a fresh tank of fuel I'd try to run some seafoam in the tank, make sure it's full. How long it's been sitting may mean a gunk build up in the fuel system. Check how tight your battery terminals are, if they're loose, they may have intermittent connection and may be your loss of start-up. I mean tight, like Hercules tighten this battery down and you will need Zeus to come half melt this terminal to loosen it up when you need to remove it. Don't do it with a power tool, since you'll probably remove the terminal like I did.

    Yes, maint required light. Oil change and reset made that go away. Whats odd though nowhere in the owners manual, at least i didnt find how to reset oil change light. I had to google it. New battery properly installed. So I replaced the cam sensor yesterday from RockAuto, and voowalla! It's running just fine so far. Not only that but from when I 1st got the truck it was having that issue with the touchy gas pedal, that if you depressed it a litttle too fast the truck would bolt forward, snapping your neck. Seen other articles about this issue and all mentioned either shimming the pedal or replacing the pedal and speed sensor. But guess what? The new cam shaft sensor fixed that issue too!

    The issue with the gas pedal may be from the gas pedal recall a few years back. I remember owners that got shimmed, or trimed, or something along those lines, along with a computer flash, would complain about touchy gas pedals. I never got it done, mine acts just fine and doesn't jolt.
