The tundra allocated to me is coming with stainless steel door edge guards, which I didn’t request or want. I’ve never had edge guards on my vehicles and have not had problem with chipped paint in the past.

Can the edge guards be easily removed without damaging the clear coat/paint? If so what is the best method to remove them?

I live where road salt is prevalent in the winter and early spring. These guards seem like another spot for salt to get stuck and potentially start to rust.

I tried to remove them off of my wife's Forester. I got a couple of small picks and tried to pry the edge guards open to safely remove them. After a few minutes, I made zero progress and decided I would do more damage trying to remove them.

I wish I could offer some assistance, but it seems like they are permanent unless you're willing to do paint work after removal.

I don't think you will be able to remove them without damaging paint, although I haven't tried.

My 2016 Rav4 had them- I caught the edge of one with a pant leg or coat sleeve, don't recall for sure because it was at least 5 years ago. I was not able to push it back on because it was bent so I ripped all 4 of them off. Paint was fine underneath, no damage at all.
