All trucks (with either the 8” & 14” screen) have built in navigation…if you subscribe to it for $16/month through Toyota. You don’t get a trial of that with your truck at purchase, unlike several of the other connected features.

well that f*cking sucks because Toyota use to offer built in navigation for free and indefinitely on well equipped or higher end trim levels. Sucks that one pays $50K+ on a pickup and can’t even get something small like free built in navigation..

Agreed but this horse has already been beaten to hell and back on the forum. Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. Navigation, remote start, connected app…all are individually priced, monthly subscription services now.

I spent the $16 the first month just to try it out. Apple CarPlay is much better…and free. I’m sure Android Auto is equally good. Unless you drive outside of cell coverage a lot, I don’t see any reason to ever pay the $16/month.

What I don’t understand is Toyota’s choice of pricing for it. It’s the most expensive of the Toyota subscription services (the others are $8/month). You’d figure that Toyota would make the price more competitive given the competition from free GPS apps built into literally every smartphone. I would’ve thought that Toyota would have made the price point much more competitive (like $5/month).

I totally agree the pricing is absurd and yes i happen to be a victim of bad cellular service every now and then which is why i heavily rely on built in navigation as a backup option.

There was talk (it was in some early marketing material for the 2022, I believe) that Toyota was going to offer some of these services at a discount if you purchased it annually vs monthly. I.E. $16/month or $160/year. Unfortunately, they have yet to offer any discounted rate with an annual purchase. Right now, the only purchase option presented in the app is the full price monthly fee. I guess the only upside to paying full price month to month is you can cancel anytime.

The pricing model makes no sense. I can see value in the $8 for the connected services but the maps at $16/mo is baffling with the highly valuable and free options on phones. And you can even download maps for phones when your out of service.

My 14” screen came with a one-year free trial of the navigation and then it is $16 per month after.

Obviously you are right, but the GPS in my 2018 is so bad I NEVER use it. I kind of prefer it not be there if it sucks anyway.

So I amend my previous statement...kinda.

If you have a Limited trim or higher, then you get a trial period of the navigation. It looks like if you get an SR5 spec'd with the 14" screen, you don't get a free trial of the navigation and you go straight to a paid subscription (if you want it).

This also seems to confirm that Toyota has no plan to offer an annual purchase of the subscription at a discounted rate (unlike other Toyota models). It looks like they only plan to offer the full price monthly rate.

    See below from Toyota.com.

I have the 14” screen and free trial for a year. Had my truck for a month now. Never used Toyota Navi cause I use CarPlay.

You won’t miss anything for the Toyota navigation is the absolutely worst navigation out there. Used it initially and got tired of being navigated tired dead ends.

I agree. I noticed that it would always take me some funky way. Like it frequently would try to navigate me down alleyways when trying to get to a store instead of the main roads. It would also tell me turn left into various shopping plazas when there was a divider in the road preventing people from turning left. I guess I could forgive the second one if it was new construction, but those dividers had been in place for years.

Honestly, it kind of reminds me how awful Apple Maps was when it was first released. For $16 a month, I was pretty shocked how bad the navigation was.

Nice. I guess Toyota just opted to not give the free trial to us poor people with the 8" screen then. lol.

Anyone know if there is a way to disable the annoying blue screen that happens at startup for those of us who have not subscribed to Toyota navigation?

I got Navigation without paying anything. Toyota gave me 10 years free and I have no clue why.
