What's the difference between an SR and the other trims besides the detuned engine?

Are the brakes smaller? Is the rear axle smaller?

Is it just the cosmetic bits that are different.... The mechanical bits are basically the same?

Brakes, axles, springs are all the same. Only thing I'm not sure of is the transmission cooler. Plenty of people would want an SR over a base SR5 if towing was the same. Savings of 5-6k, buy some take off wheels and call it a day

If everything is the same except the detuned engine, it would be logical that the SR should be able to tow just as much (or almost as much). The SR engine has more torque than the 5.7liter. Toyota is just arbitrarily derating the SR so people would buy an SR5?

Yeah my guess is they didn't add a tow mode and detuned it so that it wouldn't meet the requirements for acceleratoin in the SAE towing test. So a detune plus no tow mode means less acceleration in the tow test. My guess is they can't, or decided not to, use the sequetial shift option to hold gears longer. As you can see in the photo below you can "manually" shift gears and make them hold longer (simulating "tow mode"). This is 100% speculative and I don't recommend going over the manufactures tow rating lol

And yes, basically from what I have seen with an SR5 you get some painted bits, different color plastic bits, alloys, and software for $5-$6k
