They’re not shy esp. when they're hungry, the little bushy tailed rats. Feed them away from the car (diversion). And shoot some of them if allowed (population control).

Rodent damage sucks. I have had extensive damage done in the past also. Setting multiple traps of various sorts is a good first priority. Parking in a garage is ideal but not always an option. Lots of people have had some success with peppermint oil and other strong scent stuff. Cats can also be effective if they are semi-feral outdoor farm types. Consider taking a more active role, if you’re capable; I very nearly eradicated an entire squirrel population of about 9+ with my .22 and a couple have-a-heart traps, over a couple weeks.

There incisors are always growing hence they need to grind them down continuously. So they chew on anything that wears them down. With these engine covers it even more attractive for them to get all cozy under it and chew away and it just happens thats where a bulk of the harness is. I did read this was debunked and a lawsuit over this soy base thing was dismissed by a judge.
Not starting an argument but I've been seeing this for 3+ decades and the rodents chew what ever they can where ever there comfortable.

Ever wonder if a squirrel picks a certain vehicle because it thinks you're an asshole?
Just guessing here. Seems kinda random that they pick some vehicles and not others.

I mean, squirrels are pretty smart and I assume have the capacity to be an asshole. Maybe people do shit to piss them off that they don't realize they did.
I don't know what I'm talking about, but I might be onto something here.

Maybe they can read schematics and engineering drawings? I know working on fork lifts that a wiring harness is not cheap and can be upwards to 4 to 5k. Toyota has to make it, yup that's right, they only make what they need so when a 10+ yr old FL wiring is bad it's an automatic back order of 6 months or more. Don't see much animal damage due to those thing are always being used.
I have vole destroying my flower bed and have been putting down pellets with some type of castor oil and I could already see his paths in the grass growing back in so atleast it working.

Make a little sac with mothballs and hang it somewhere under the hood that won't interfere with anything. Keeps all sorts of critters out.
Comprehensive coverage on your insurance should cover damage without any premium penalty. Probably state dependent, however. I've had rat issues twice in the past in FL, both times insurance handled it without any problems.

Get an outdoor cat and you won't have any problems with squirrels, rats, mice, etc....you probably won't see as many birds either. There's not a more efficient killer on the planet.

Heard this from a friend. 14.5mm pellet at 850 FPS works quite well. No noise. Just saying.

I disagree with your statement, while cats are absolutely up there you forgot "man". It is the one thing we excel at.

Yeah, but man needs tools, teamwork and training.
Cats are physically and mentally built to kill right out of the box.

Have to agree. We've had Cats for many years. The sweet purring machine indoors becomes beast outside.

Tore up my Tundra and never touched my Jeep. I don't know. Maybe I just drive like an asshole in the Tundra.
