Sounds like an idler pulley bearing but i dont know. I will make an appt at the dealer but wanted to ask here if this is common. 2016 with 29000 miles. Dammit! I will also have them look at the cam tower leak!

I noticed the weather affects my two older vehicles. Since it’s gotten colder and more humid out my other two vehicles are squeaky upon start up.

This does not go away after driving it. Sounds bad. Don't want to make a YouTube account but wish I could upload a video from my phone?

I’ve only been able to do it through YouTube. I think there’s another avenue but I don’t know which one. It’s most likely one of your pulleys. I’ve had good luck on an older vehicle blasting it with some WD-40 LOL

I'd say both are uncommon. Another 16er here. No cam leaks or squeaking. 27k. California truck though.. So it isn't dealing with snow, salt, etc

Well I just drove the truck again. Only a short trip to the store but it did not make the squealing sound... but it was doing it for over half the day during lots of driving. Will see what it sounds like tomorrow.

After warming up and driving a lot today it is still squealing.
One of the 3 things i ever had to replace on my 98 Taco was the idler pulley but that was at like 130000 miles.

Well I guess that's it then.. You likely got a IP that "squeeked" beyond the QC. It's too early for a water pump so I'd slap a new belt on just for giggles and get Toyota to warranty the IP.

This stuff occasionally happens. It's inconvenient and the truck would continue reliably for years, but why deal with it.
Just think.. If it was a Ford or Chevy you would have lost a WP, Starter, Injector, or alternator by now. Lol

I will never find out about that.
Yea it's a hassle more than anything. Too busy...I don't have time to burn.
Should I have to pay a charge for them to look at it? I'm not sure the truck is still under warranty.

I'd verify the warranty first via telephone. No sense in paying hourly for them to say, "Yep.. But your not covered"
I use the general statement to the CSR...
Hey I got this IP that starts consistently squeaking when the engine heats up. My truck is a X with X miles. Is this covered under power train?
If you get the "bring it in and we'll see" guy, tell him to pull the VIN because you aren't going to commit to dealership labor so they can pat you on the back for your excellent observation skills. Any mechanic could easily isolate and diagnose in seconds.
At any rate, if toyota starts playing games outside warranty, bring it to an independent you trust and use OE parts.

My 13 did it last winter, but I think i figured out that its the car wash that blasts water from underneath, gets pully bearings wet. I dont use that car wash now and it seems to have stopped. Knock on wood. My other friend said both his tundras did it so im ok with the odd noise.

Heard that sound on my ‘13 after taking it hog hunting. Washed it out good and it stopped.
