I have a 2001 Tundra, 2wd with a v8. The brakes squeak but only in reverse. I have replaced the rear brakes, front pads and rotors and I cant get it to stop. I have had it to 3 mechanics and no one can remedy the problem. I have tried AutoZone Duralast pads, twice. Both were ceramic. I'm getting ready to try Duralast semi-metallic. They have blown out the dust, checked the pins etc etc etc. Can anyone give me some advice? I have never posted to a group like this but I thought it was time to get advice from someone that loves Tundras. Thank you!

Toyota brakes noise in reverse is a thing. My 4runner would do it, Tundra not yet. It is often from sitting overnight, the moisture in the air, or rain, will cause some rust on the brakes which make noise in reverse and always seems worse when sitting overnight vs after you have driven it around. Why reverse, because you hardly ever brake in reverse and are going against the grain on how the pads and rotors have been beded.

Dont have a fix for you but a few good hard stops in reverse may help.

The truck did not have this problem when I bought it so I wonder why it developed? The old gal has 259,000 miles but I dont think that should matter. I live in Illinois so sea salt is not an issue. I can try the hard stops in reverse to see if that helps.

I noticed the problem is all 4 seasons, always in reverse only and never subsides. Front brakes.

Did you put brake lube on the backs of the pads?

Could it be the parking brake shoes making the noise? Try applying the parking brake a little while backing up and see if the noise goes away.
