Our grass is all but extinct and I'm tired of having to drag out the hose and sprinkler then move it around every morning and evening. Enter the Orbit dual zone sprinkler system. Problem is it's hot AF outside right now....

I hope the water pressure and volume at your source is REALLY good..

You can rent a trenching tool at Diamond Tool Rental or similar for probably $100 for the day. Digging in the heat blows. Good luck!

60 PSI and almost 9 gpm. I tested everything before digging.

Also laid it out to ensure the spray patterns are good to go.

Can you rent pipe pullers you still have to backfill a trench with a puller you only have to dig and backfill at head locations

I'm unsure, but probably. I've installed exactly two sprinkler systems both in homes I was building, and both as a first step in completing the landscaping.. the first time I used a trenching machine and the second time a mini excavator.

The pipe puller option is intriguing..

Get a backflow prevention valve on that system. You can find all different flavors for varying prices. Well worth not having to worrying what's potentially coming back up in the system and is code in most areas.

I've only designed and installed one system and I'll never do it myself again. So much work and it just wasn't worth it in the end. Good luck!

Wouldn’t one of the simple hose bib checks be sufficient?

Dont believe that is code, but certainly better than nothing, IMO. After reading up on it,, it was an easy $100 purchase for a dedicated unit, especially how I was tied into my house supply, had pets, and applied fertilizers.

Only completed one zone. I'm tuckered out. The other zone will have to wait. I'll still run it above ground though....

We’ve been on stage three for a month and no irrigation allowed. I’m currently filling up a cooler to wheel it around and water some small trees we got growing. My front yard is baked but it’s St Augustine. First rain and it’ll bounce back.

Swing checks are not a legal, at least in Cal, backflow device. You need a "dump" also refered to as a positive air gap or an anti-siphon to be legal.

    Williamson.

And of course, I’ve got a valve in my system that’s leaking. Can’t even use the dang thing and it’s leaking.

… You do plan on re-sodding right? Water all you want but all I see is nutsedges weeds and some wild onion and no actual grass.

You should check out “Texas lawn care nuts” FB page group if you want to learn more.

Yeah, when it cools off. The previous owners obviously didn't give a crap about what the yard looked like but there was way more grass than what's there now. I'm no lawn nut and the last guy to get on hands and knees to pull a weed.

    Is it a zone valve?
Most zone valves are easy to take apart and clean or even replace the diaphragm

Uncertain and not worried. I pay an annual maintenance contract with a company to maintain this system. It’s 27 years old. That and I grew up fixing this crap with my dad and I swore then that if I ever had a sprinkler system, I’d pay someone to fix it. 10 zones and I think 40 heads? I’ve replaced at least a 1/4 of the heads myself. New control box first year we moved in. Had a valve bust this winter and one zone was on for 12hrs straight (I run my stuff at night). I know for sure we’ve replaced 30 heads and 3 valves so far. Dad drove over a line and busted that and we uncovered yet another valve in the system. PO didn’t keep the valves boxes cleaned up so grass has grown over them. Makes it that much more fun. I’m about ready to rip this non natural grass out and let the natural stuff grow in. My backyard has no sprinklers and is all natural grass. Grows in the fall and spring and is dead the rest of the year. Way easier. I keep threatening to rip the entire front flower beds out and go zero scape save for one or two plants my wife wants to keep. I hate yard maintenance.
