When I first start my truck I hear something that sounds like a spinning computer drive. Sometimes it seems to "run" longer than other times.

    What is making this sound?

I haven't yet heard truck sound comparison to computer drive sound.

Are you referring to a CD-rom drive, or floppy drive, or hard drive? If hard drive, do you mean when it spins up or the clicking sound when its dying.

Why not post a YouTube link with that specific sound? It's hard to imagine without hearing it

    IT here...

It sounds like a hard drive or maybe a CD rom drive reading/writing data. I'll see if I can capture it and post on YouTube.

Today i actually heard an electronic sounding buzzing by my rear passenger tires while my truck was off. 1st time ive heard that and it stopped as soon as i started my car. Wonder if its related to the campaign ith the e-brakes that just came out on my toyota app.

I’ve heard this three times too in 1.5 years of ownership. It sounds like it comes from under the truck bed inside of the rear passenger tire area. Fuel pump?

Can you elaborate please? I’m not a mechanic and am not familiar with what you are referring to. Thanks.

The 07 to 21 Tundra would, on its own, perform an Evap System self-check. 22's and up probably does it too. That's the buzzing sound you hear.

The sound you are hearing is most likely the D4S fuel injection system. When first started, particularly when engine is cold, it runs on direct injection mode for several seconds very rich using very high pressure which makes a significant amount of buzz or clatter. It then switches to port injection and quiets down. Normal operation.

This is done momentarily on a cold start by many manufacturers to help warm and fire off the catalytic converters downstream of the engine quicker for reducing emissions.

Passenger side is where the fuel tank is located too.

The fuel tank is on passenger side along with it's evaporative emission or vapor storage system. At times when it performs it's system test you may hear a slight buzzing sound. BUT, on modern Toyotas the evaporative test is only performed after engine is off and sat for few hours to stabilize temperatures and vapor pressures

That makes sense. The noise I have heard is after the truck has sat for a while, not at start up.

Yeah, you should hear my wife’s Subaru doing that. I thought it was going to blowup the first time I heard it.

    Ha!!!

yes, I should have said it sounds more like the head of a floppy drive or a CD rom moving back and forth.
It’s random and happens so fast I can’t get my phone in video mode before it stops.

I’ve noticed the radio amplifier has a cooling fan too. Sometimes after shutting the truck off you can hear the fan for a short bit continuing to cool the amp. 2016 Tacoma and a couple GMCs had the same.

Good to know. I usually notice it upon startup but will keep my ear out for it after shutdown as well.
