Hey all! So it's time I get my speedometer calibrated. Lived with it rolling the 35s around but the 37s are putting it off abit much for my likings. I've read numerous times that the hypertech won't work correctly with the platinum trim but I feel there has to be a way I can calibrate it. I can't see how the platinum would differ from any other trim in regards to speedo recalibration.

Trim level is inconsequential. I've got the Rough Country Calibrator which is basically a rebranded Hypertech. I swapped gears and have oversized rubber - you input the revised information and it will still be off so what a lot of guys do is play with the numbers a bit. Try putting in a larger tire size than what you have or smaller size...then run it and see if it gets you more or less accurate then adjust again until it's dead on or within your tolerance.

The reason why is nobody is sure exactly what the baseline is. The ecu is not programmed exactly for the specific tire from the factory but it’s close. Toyota left themselves a “fudge” zone but nobody knows by exactly how much. Your truck maybe have come with 18s from the factory but it’s not programmed exactly to the size of those tires ect.

Also your new tires may be sold as a 35 but could really be 34.5 or 35.5 in. You get small error on both ends reasons why you have to adjust/play with it until it’s close to GPS readings.

I had my 2014 sr5 calibrated using the hypertech module so I understand the process off getting it setup right. I've just heard numerous members now report the module not working with their platinum trim trucks. I myself don't see how trim level would impact it but I figured I'd ask before I place the order.

Okay so just to let you all know the module does not work with the platinum trim. Module doesn't support some of the features

Lol if true that’s on Hypertech…

Does it say which features it doesn’t support? The speed data you are correcting is the same on literally every Toyota. Tundra, Sequoia, Camry, Prius, RAV4, Sienna. I have seen CAN logs out of all of them. One thing guaranteed the same on everyone is the speed data.

Can the module just not handle the traffic load of the extra features. Reading in and correcting the speed is super easy from a programming standpoint.

I've read other reports of the same/similar issues. My speedometer is corrected mind you and the newest firmware update from hypertech allows you to fine tune and actually enter GPS speeds during the setup. Seems to be mostly issues related to the update that brought toyota safety sense into the picture

I have a 2018 Platinum and have an older Rough Country calibrator I used to correct mine around 4 years ago. I had a lot of trouble getting it to tune in the first time but got it after about a week of messing with it here and there.

Fast forward to a few months ago when I bought 37's and have yet to get it to program. After numerous attempts, a lot of posts on here and multiple phone calls to Hypertech (Hypertech makes the modules and the software but they are sold under different names although identical, just different $$) I found that the module I have has somehow shot craps and is no longer working.

I have a new one in the mail under warranty

I installed mine a few weeks ago after I mounted my 35s and it's been working as advertised. Hypertechs youtube video on adjusting the unit is spot on. I had to make one adjustment after the initial guess on tire size, and as was already mentioned the the latest firmware allows you to fine tune with GPS. some have mentioned that the radar controlled cruise doesn't work accurately but I haven't found that to be the case, so not sure what the issue is there. I've been pleasantly surprised that in addition to displaying the correct speedo info, my transmission shifts at the correct shift points again and I've gotten a lot more pep getting the truck rolling than without. I don't notice any difference between rolling with the stock 32s and my 35s now. Way cheaper upgrade than swapping gears. curious how that will translate to 37s though

How old is your module? Maybe I can get them to swap mine.

I was out of warranty now but I was in warranty the first time I asked about the problem

Okay so update, upon uninstalling to return I removed the zip ties that were on the harness and all my features that had been missing started to work. Seems I had a lose connection or something in the harness. Now onto my next issue... the module is not actually inputting any new correction factors into my speedometer. The program is not reading my device serial number or part number. Waiting on a call back from hypertech now
