hi guys. I will be buying my first Toyota and my first truck ever.
I am going through all the options and packages, and I'm trying to find the sweet spot for value/features, and resale 5-6 years from now. I understand a lot of this is subjective, and my needs and budget have a lot to play on this, but for a second, I would like you to put that aside. after spending an entire day building it on the Toyota website, I think I will be ok with the SR5 crewcab 4x4 short bed + trd off road premium with options (highest package). this package is about 9k extra, but it's the only one I can see that has the audio upgrade, the faux leather seats, the big screen, and the off-road capabilities.
I live in florida where it's all flat, and I'm mostly interested in the tundra because of comfort and space since I'll be driving 3+ hours a few times a week for work. my reasoning for picking this package are twofold; for one, when I decide to resell it it will be more desirable, and secondly, this particular build seems to be pretty popular and available unlike most costume orders. now to the question part.... am I better picking a higher trim like the limited or premium and choosing a lower package? what am I missing from those higher up? as spec'd, I'm at 57640...if any of you have a different configuration I should consider please let me know.
thank you for reading this long thread, and for your time.

My recommendation would be to look at the Limited with TRD OR. It's pretty much the exact same price, but when you trade it in or do a private sale, the dealer or buyer won't care that you got the highest trim on the SR5. They're just going to give you an SR5 offer, regardless of what it has. Get the Limited for the same price and you'll get a better resale in the future. However, keep in mind that values 5-6 years from now could be anywhere. That's a long ways out and if certain political parties have their way, gas prices will keep going up so we get forced into electric cars. In 6 years, our new trucks certainly won't be worthless but they might be worth a lot less than expected if gas is ridiculously priced.

And I could be totally wrong on that front. I just think it's wise to keep it in mind now instead of being surprised about it in the future.

4x4 is the biggest adder for resale, maybe not as much in Florida but where I live occasionally you see a 2WD Tacoma or 4Runner on a used lot and they go for at least 30-40% less than a comparable 4x4 model. They're usually only from people who moved here with the vehicle because dealers don't even get new 2WD models.

    Doesn't the 1794/platinum start at 58k?

thank you,. this is a really good point. I used an online depreciation calculator and at five years it is estimated to retain 73% of its value; I was offered a 3 year lease with a 83% residual which is crazy good. you're right we don't know what politics will do to that, however. very good point on the trim as well.
