Speaker systems

What’s going on everyone sorry haven’t been on in a week or 2. Just got my backup cam installed and replaced the tailgate handle to make it look factory. So now I’m onto my next project for the interior. What is some good speakers to upgrade factory speakers? Any trouble doing it?

 

the only trouble is deciding what to buy, Alot of ppl are going with the jl audios some infinity kappas all depends on ur budget also remember adding and amplifier always sounds better,

 

I personally plan on going with the JL C2's, a bit more on the pricier side, but I am planning to look around on black friday to see if I can nab them on sale somewhere.

 

I put some JBL 609C's in the front doors in my 08 DC. They are component speakers and cost about $95 on Amazon. I am hearing music differently now in that I am hearing new notes, new instruments that I had not heard before on the crappy stock speakers.

I had JL speakers installed with a Alpine amp (behind the dash) . The thing rocks now ! You will not believe the difference !!!

 

Couldn't be more pleased with my Infinity Kappa's front and rear. Can't even come close to turning it up full.

I am talking to one of my best friends who is a big sound guy in cars and he recommended soundqubed. He had it on his car and it sounded amazing. It’s show quality. I can’t wait to get it. Just waiting on the final yes for the setup and we’ll be ready to go. Only costs 150 with components, tweeters and rear speakers. I’m going to do a sub and amp later

 

Do you guys have a link/s to some speakers systems that sound good and you like a lot? I’m wanting to upgrade my stereo sound but not wanting to run wires, drill holes, etc. Just looking to upgrade the speakers to have a better sound than the stock ones in there now. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

 

What do you think about this?So basically, just by replacing the speakers, the cabin sound will be better than stock speakers???

 

Almost anythin will sound better thanthe stock speakers. The JBL GTO 609C speakers are great but require you to mount the tweeters in the sail panels - not a hard job but it takes some time to do it. I can't believe the clarity. They are around $95.

 

I had JL speakers installed with an alpine amp in the dash. When I get home I will look up the exact ones and post . Best $600 I ever spent !!!

I’m not looking to spend a lot on upgrading my speakers just something to sound better than what I have. Right now I can hear music in in the front but the rear speakers sound so soft it almost seems like there is no speaker in the back of the truck. Keep your thoughts coming. Thanks!

Here is my system breakdown:
1. Factory Entune w/ navigation
2. Added an Audio Control LC7i too clean the signal coming from the OEM headunit
3. Replaced the factory amp with a JL amp (XD1000/5v2)
4. Replaced the front door speakers with Alpine Type R 6.5" components (tweeter placed in factory dash location)
5. Disconnected the factory center stage
6. Replaced the rear door speakers with Alpine Type R 6.5"
7. Disconnected the rear door tweeters
8. Added two 10" JL subs behind the rear seat in a sealed box

 

What kind of wattage does the Entune Premium head unit put out? I'm wondering if I need to replace the factory amp under the front passenger seat with a higher power unit or can I get away with replacing all door speakers and the center speaker in the dash? I don't need a suer high power system, but I don't like the sound of the factory speakers. What are you guys doing? Amp and speakers or just speakers?

 

I was looking at *********.com they have a nice - fairly reasonable - speaker system kit that has everything you need to install the front door and rear door speakers. The front door set comes with tweeters that go into the sail panels - from the videos it doesn't look that difficult to do. I was wondering...does anyone have these speakers installed in their truck? and if so how do you like them? Again I'm not wanting to run wires throughout the truck nor get some booming system. I would just like to have something that sounds good when I turn up the radio than the stock speakers I have now. Thanks for you information!

 

Everything depends on your budget and what kind of music you listen to. How much do you want to spend?

If you are trying to do it on the cheap:
4-channel amp that will accept speaker level inputs
Wiring harness either from tech12volts (i reccomend tech12volts) or taco tunes. (these will make it so you dont need to run any wires to the speakers in the doors, but no matter what, you will need to run a power from the battery for the amp).
Speaker adapters from ether of the guys above.
2 sets of 6.5" component speakers. i'm a jl fanboy, but i've had infinity, rockford fosgate, mb quarts and they all sound good. Infinity is hard to beat for the price.
Depending on how great of deals you can find, probably be in for around $500

Thats your basics. some drawbacks of this is that the factory headunit has bass roll-off where the louder the volume gets the less bass it outputs. Hopefully the amp will combat that a little. Will is sound better than the stock setup, yes. Will it get you by, yes. Will it sound absolutely amazing, no. If you are fine with that....start shopping, if not down the rabbit hole we go.

Bass roll-off hun? Dont like that because you like to bump some e40 with the windows down?
You need to add a sound processor to clean up the signal coming from the deck. I went with the JL FiX86, but its pricey. A lot of people go with Audiocontrol products that seem to work well and its cheaper.
Either add a mono amp to power a sub, or swap the 4-channel for a 5-channel.
pick a box and subwoofer (probably a single 10" will be fine).
On the cheap: +$400 I like my neighbors to FEEL my music: +$1,500

 

I did this install but used JBL GTO 609C component speakers - $95. Sound great. The install was not difficult. Make sure if you order from ********* that they send you what you ordered. I ordered back door speakers from them and they sent me different speakers and claimed they were the same. Bait and switch BS and I am going to warn everyone about how they do business.

 

Hey can anyone answer this? I was told that to really get a great sounding system in my truck (2016 SR5) I would have to replace the head unit. Does that seem right? I upgraded all the speakers in the doors and was thinking of upgrading the amp and putting in some subs behind the back seats.....but I'm not going to put more money into subs and an amp if it will not do much for sound. Only reason I am not wanting to upgrade my head unit is because I really want to keep the original head unit. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

I kept the stock hu, and my stereo sounds great!

I too kept my stock head unit. The big bitch is from people who just don't know or don't care to learn to setup signal output from the stock stereo through whatever they may be using (AudioControls LC series, JL Fix series, etc). If you aren't sure why you are getting a hiss and are absolutely sure you have adequate ground then contact the manufacturer of said LOC or you tube the damn thing.

Biggest issue by far is "I upgraded my system with amps, speakers, and sub and now I have a hiss, the stock HU is total shit and sucks, I need to upgrade the HU....".

The signal from the HU is not as high voltage as aftermarket units, that is a given. But it doesn't mean its total crap. I had the hiss with my LC7i when I first installed and after reading this and a few other forums I was almost ready to throw in the towel and get a new HU because that's what the majority of the posts claimed needed to be done. When in reality all that needed to be done was to configure the LC7i correctly and the hiss is totally gone.

So in a really round about ranting kind of way....no you don't need to upgrade the HU for "great" sound.

 

I kept my factory HU as well, just added a signal processor to clean the signal up. To me, it sounds pretty damn good. Sure, it isn’t as clean as an aftermarket HU, but I’m not competing in any sound quality competitions either. Adding an aftermarket HU can be pricey, plus the added cost of retaining factory functions (XM, backup cam, steering wheel controls, etc.)

 

Thanks guys for the input and information. I'm gonna go talk to a local audio shop and see what they can do to make the stereo sound better. I'll tell them I want to keep the stock HU and want them to install an amp and subwoofer/s. I hope the Infinity speakers I installed will sound good once all of this gets put together.

I was wondering do you guys think it better getting one or two subwoofers in the back....Is getting two of them a little overkill?

 

I'm running a single 10" kicker comp VT Shallow 4ohm sub and its plenty. I will highly stress however that its the box that makes the sub. Case in point I built my own box, fiber glassed it for strength and everything, had the correct volume for the sub and everything and it sounded like crap. It sounded so bad I thought the speaker was blown. Borrowed my son's sub box to make sure it wasn't the speaker and promptly ordered a box from a local company (who also sells on ebay) for $105.00 and what a freakin difference. It hits incredibly hard and to think I thought it was blown because of the box I built and everyone told me I wouldn't be happy with a shallow sub...The internet is full of experts these days and you really have to take things with a grain of salt. Experience is the best teacher albeit expensive at times.
