Spacers for 2020 SR5 Tundra

I just bought the 2020 SR5 TRD Offroad Tundra...

I am currently out working, away from home and my wife went to have some Cooper STT Pro tires put on stock rims (275/70 R18) and asked about adding the 1" spacers on my behalf.

The salesman told her, "they haven't came out with spacers for the 2020 yet"...? Then offered after market rims for the same look. Was he just trying to up-sell? It's my understanding that Tundra's have 5x150 lug pattern and that these spacers are available in many different brands.

I'm new to Tundras and a new Trundas.com member... but I am loving this truck already! Even though I have not even seen it in person yet. Thank you for the many forums covering all aspects of these powerhouse trucks!... as I have spent a lot of time reading forum conversations and admiring many of your beautiful Tundras!

Never trust a car salesman. With that said the torque spec on the 2020 rims has changed, it has increased, at least it has according to Discount tire. I have the steel rims and the lug nut torque spec on my 2020 is now 155 ft lbs. So maybe this increase in torque spec will effect the current wheel spacers available?? Best to call the wheel spacer manufacturer for confirmation.

 

I would be hesitant to believe them. As long as the. I’ll pattern is the same as other years the spacers should be the same as well.

Thank you!... good idea on calling the manufacturer. The stock rim is a nice rim already. I'm not wanting to buy new rims until later on when i do the lift and bigger tires... Just trying to give the new fellah some nice new shoes. You are happy with the Bora Spacers Tundy?

 

So happy. 1.25 inches gets me flush with the fenders and I’m running 275/70 r 18

Our website has spacers listed for a 2020 tundra. They have been the same since 2007 so he’s either an idiot or he’s pushing for the wheel sale.

We don’t really recommend sizes when it’s just for aesthetics. One guy might love the look of a size, the next one might not.

If we recommend a size and you’re not happy then we have to eat the cost of spacers, shipping and labor.

Now a 1.25” Is pretty popular with a stock 275 tire but it comes very close to the mud flap in front. Most guys just remove it. 1” would have a little bit more room but the tips of the studs could need to be trimmed slightly if they don’t recess back in to the wheel. Now most OEM wheels do have pockets but it’s always safe to double check before heading on down the road.

I run 1.25 spacers. Brings the stock tire to just beyond the fender. I like it

 

Just make sure the spacers are hub centric.
Spidertrax spacers are good.

 

Bora are good spacers. You don’t want to trim the studs in case you want to remove them later. I removed my front mud flap.

 

I have a set of Spidertrax that were used for about a month and can no longer use them due to my offset.

 

What is your offset?

 

Zero

 

I had them with the previous wheels before switching to the 0 offset.

 

I'm putting +50 wheels on and hopefully 1.25" Spidertrax spacers.

 

I need to know how that turns out...
I may be doing spacers in the future.

Specs are different for steel vs aluminum. I'm sure the spacers are equipped to handle both.

Do it dude, you will love the look. They are safe if good quality and installed right. You'll get push back from 4x4 elitists but if you abuse anything it will break. I've had them on some gnarly stuff and zero problems. You run the same risks running a offset rim. Do tires fall of of cars without spacers? Yes, it happens but nobody says don't drive your car because tires are dangerous. You will find a certain rate of failure to all things. More often than not its operator error or cheap parts, which holds true for all things.

 

I'm sure there are hundreds of members here running spacers. I've never seen a first hand account of them failing. Even if there were a few its a tiny fraction.

 

I work on a 260 foot fishing vessel. We use aluminum couplings for so many applications including 200 hp+ electric motors that turn hydraulic pumps that run deck machinery of thousands of pounds of hydraulic power and torque. The only failures I have ever seen is when someone fails to take the proper time to tighten something to torque specs, forget to tighten up a bolt or nut or forgetting to tighten down a set screw. Or just not ever going back and checking torque settings after the equipment has been ran for a while. There is the failure of maybe poor quality or buying the cheaper of the product to save a buck, but engineers who design have to take into consideration a safety factor when designing the product they sale to the customer. But mostly, the failure comes when there is an operator error.

As a spacer, I can see if someone didn't torque down to the recommended torque value, or maybe even over torquing to cause a failure or ruin the threads.

I did read that spacers were not recommended for people who are doing extreme off-roading. But for an everyday driver, someone looking to make a truck have a mean wider stance, why not!? And if you don't have a good mechanic that you can trust, do it yourself so you know it is done right and torqued down to the right values. I'm learning in my profession, that the professionals are not always that.

That makes sense. I couldn't believe the torque setting when they told me. Haven't had a lug setting that high since owning a couple Superduty's. They did say it changed from previous years though so I don't know what that is all about?

 

I take dealer Info w a grain of salt. As far as I know the spec has always been 154 for steel...

What does this prove? What brand are they? Are they hubcentric? We’re they installed correctly? What was the truck doing when this happened?
This is exactly what I mean, the devil is in the details. For the record i stated that they have to be high quality, hubcentric and installed correctly. A picture of some unknown brand of spacer means nothing. Looks like the factory bolts sheared and the spacer is still completely intact. I’m guessing improper install or abuse through extreme off-roading.
