The sony 9500es does not have built-in gps

It works with your phone only. , apple carplay or android auto
If your phone is connected is should be working

If you have music playing on say Spotify for example, and a route on Google Maps, clicking this split screen button in the corner:

    upload_2025-1-10_10-12-20.png

should make the screen split and look similar to this:

    upload_2025-1-10_10-12-58.png

This is only for reference/I grabbed a screenshot from google but it looks more or less the same as my 9000ES/the carplay split screen looks about the same on any head unit, looks about the same on my wife's CX-5 head unit.

    Restart headunit

If need be pull the headunit and connect directly to the usb at the 9500 with a usb extension csble. This will check to see if there is an issue from the headunit to the factory usb connection plug

It is probably a connection issue. Odds are low that the usb is not working on a new headunit

Ok so they only sent me on of these cables .they are now sending one .So does this just plug into the ubs-a that is on my 19 tundra dash by cigarette lighter . If so after hooking up what do I use to make sure it works. Phone or what else. Will it show Phone charging? Hate to put together again an find out it's not working. Thanks IMG_1513[113].jpg

The small end (USB-C) will plug into the back of your new Sony head unit, and the other end will connect to what is likely a loose plug behind the stereo. The loose plug is what feeds to your USB in the dash. The bad/annoying news is you or your installer will have to pull the head unit back out to get it plugged in.

I'd just plug your phone into the USB port before you button everything back up and see if it's charging and/or if the head unit recognizes it.

This is the back of the 9000ES that I have but 9500ES should be the same, USB will plug in back here: upload_2025-1-14_9-33-38.png
other end will plug into the only USB slot/cord it fits with. To be cautious I'd disconnect your battery negative before pulling the radio, wire it up, set the radio back in but don't bolt it in, reconnect your battery negative and start the truck, and then plug your phone into the USB data port
    upload_2025-1-14_9-40-38.png

The other two USB slots are charging only so be sure to plug into the correct one.
