This small bucket is the oil pan ???
Or am I waaaay off ?.
After a year & 1/2 I never noticed how cute this tiny tot is lol.
    Smallest I've ever seen.
My 95 GT 5.0 had a giant one compared to this, arched over both sides of the K member.
Anyway just asking cause I may remove it to inspect for any sludge.
I bought it with 234K miles, about to be 240k...IMG_20241114_141600006.jpg IMG_20241114_142232886.jpg
It drives awesome but checking can't hurt. I hope.

Yep. And it's easy to change, too. I know a guy who may have stripped his drain plug.

    It was easy to change.

My 08 has got 8 qts every change. It's never complained about the extra .5 qt.

    I haven't done my 21 yet. I don't drive it much.

Yes, that’s the oil pan - well, the lower pan anyways. There are two oil pans on the 5.7 - the upper pan and lower pan. You can see in the picture where the lower pan bolts to the upper pan. Easier to clear the crossmember and keep the engine lower in the vehicle.

I gotta admit. I haven’t done any service to mine but I’ve only had it a couple of months and I’ve been gone for longer than I’m home. But I do like how protected that oil drain plug is. The more I look the more I admire some of the nuances of how things are put together. That being said, I am familiar and dread the alternator and or starter changes. That seem somehow inevitable one day.

What's funny is your old Mustang had 5 qts with the 5.0 and 12 qts with the V6. :rofl:Be glad you don't own a newer one SC'd one. 10.0 qts of 5W-50. That will run you 155.00 if you are an AMSoil preferred customer and you do it yourself. Dealership is 270.00 for just the oil. :eek2:

I'm glad @blenton mentioned the upper and lower oil pan.

Annnnnnnd 3k mile oil changes religiously.
With mostly Oreily 10w-30. dinosaur blend. I got it with 27k sold it to my coworker 14years later with almost 200k.
    Within a week Randall
(a certified Mustang fool & engine builder) did a compression test on every piston...
Would you believe ea on was exactly 9.0 to1 Dam crazy considering I thrashed that lil underpowered 5.0 like a animal for years. I could not break that cast iron marvel. Now the tranny that's a another story X2.
A lot to be said about just changing the filter and oil consistently and methodically period. Dino, Blend or High Tech Synthetic.
    Imo.
I remember like yesterday him calling my house at night just to ask me "what kind of oil had you been using this thing is clean"
He did a complete block up freshen up.
Trick Flow heads bigger injectors Comp Cam long tubes MSD ignition the works.
Now it has a Kennel Bell blower with 4.11 ring & pinion it goes good for a original bottom end. I believe mid eleven seconds with 460 HP to the wheels.
Ever time I see it I miss it. But I don't miss the space haaaaaaa thus my apartment on wheels Crewmax 5.7....

Full disclosure::::: I thought of dropping the pan after reading the instructions on some
X brand Sludge cleaner.. I can't remember wich rite now... at Wally world today. "For motors with more than 75k remove oil pan, inspect and clean the oil pick up of any sludge"
Funny the sludge cleaner next to it STP doesn't mention dropping the pan & cleaning the oil return.
Normally I wouldn't do all this however I did buy the truck with 234k miles. And thank God it runs Awesome imo.
I don't see no harm in inspecting the inside of the oil pan & pick up. At worst I'll get to see if the oil was changed often if at all.
Otherwise just a clean thoroughly and reinstall. No harm done.
FYI.. Walmart has the new Valvoline Restore & Protect Full Syn 5-20 & 5-30 for 29.99$ 5qts not bad Oreilys & AutoZone wants 37.99$
Fans of Super tech same weight
    Full Syn (DEXOS)
19.99$ 5qts Wich is Awesome. I'm a big fan of Super tech. I've ner seen a bad review from any the major YouTube
(Motor Oil Tester) Sometimes SuperTech does better in some of the tests.
Just so happened I had a 20$ backpack to return and felt "SPENDY" LOL so I pony upped for the Valvoline sludge killer. Will se how it does maybe in a couple of years. Being I drove around 4700 miles this year. Every 5k or every year...12 Miles from my job. I love it.
