I have a 2010 4X4 with the 5.7 and probably the most basic of packages, so I'm sure that most of my questions have been answered before and i just cant find them, but here are the ones that I would place at the top of my list.

    1. On my wheels the finish is coming off and oxidizing underneath. there doesn't seem to be any strength loss so i was thinking to sand blast the rest of the gloss covering off and "rhino line" the wheels to protect them. good idea or bad idea.

    2. I've had off road vehicles before why is it that the Tundra lift kits are mostly "block lifts" or coil-overs? Is there a decent 4"-6" lift that is a full suspension not long travel that I am just not finding?

    3. Looking into auxiliary electrical components like a winch and lights is there a need to run dual alternators or a larger battery with and upgraded alternator? or is that just overkill.

    4. With smaller displacement vehicles and intake and exhaust will dramatically increase their with a safari snorkel and headers back is there a noticeable gain?

Again i appreciate all the help i can hope to hear for you all soon.

I have a 2010 Crewmax 4x4 also. SR5. BDS suspension makes 4-7" lift for the Tundra. Cutting and welding cross member required. Also, stock wheels may not fit anymore.

Rhino lining the wheels may throw off the balance cause the lining is thick and heavy. You may or may not be able to re-balance depending on how even you applied the coating.

The only issue you will have with your wheels oxidizing is that sooner or later it'll happen on where the tire seals on the rim and you'll get slow leaks. On my 2000 Tundra I use a 4 1/2" grinder with a wire cup wheel to clean that surface up once and they have sealed just fine since. As for being weakened, I doubt it but they do look like hell.

I can't answer the lift question as I've never looked into it on either of my Tundras.

I don't think extra lighting will need more power (most lights are LED now). But a winch could benefit from a larger battery if you are going to use it often.

Are you sure you need more power out of the 5.7? If you are lifting it are you planning on going in deep mud and some beefy mud tires or is it more for ground clearance and the stock(ish) tires still going to work for you? I could see needing more power for some large Super Swampers but otherwise the 5.7 seams to have tons of power.

art64 so the BDS kit is a fully for function lift kit not a body lift correct? At least thats what i got from looking at it. also why will the stock wheels not work do they rub or did you just go with what the website said. no idea what backspacing is fyi never understood it.

Dr_Al so the oxidation happened in a valve stem area and i was able to clean it up with a but of steel wool and a drill. used plumbers dope for any micro stuff. as for the more power being in GA there is a bit of mud that i get into which is why im looking at a winch (12k by badlands to be specific) and i will most likely go to a 35-37" tire (cooper stt pros if money allows) basically i am building this to be a go anywhere vehicle that i can self recover. hence all the "extras". i know the 5.7 is a beast of a motor but i also know that from the factory they are all dialed back not looking to make 1k but close to 450 at the wheels with 550 lb-ft would be nice. i value function and performance over looks and flair. hopefully ill be able to post some pictures soon so that you can see what im talking about.
