Question for those living in Colorado. I will be coming that way in late October for an elk hunt. The outfitter taking us to our camp recommends tire chains as we have to go over a Jeep trail and there could be snow. Anyway, will there be places we can buy chains there if needed? Does any place rent them? Heck, anybody have any that fits stock TRD wheels they don’t need? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Not from Colorado.

Colorado has Les Schwab though. Here in Oregon, if you don’t use the chains, Les Schwab will allow you to return them.

you didnt say where you were headed. Look them up online and see if you pass one on your route. You’d be in and out in about 15min.

Just a little note, I'm not sure which wheels specifically you have - but if they have any powdercoating on them - don't use chains. Get cables. Chains can ruin powdercoating.

what Java said, if you plan on using them on your front tires make sure they don't hit your UCA's too. Secondly, most native soil on unmaintained mountain roads turns to a VERY sticky snot when wet, even if it does not snow, any significant rainfall will create treacherous conditions :) Without good traction, you can literally slide sideways off a road. Been there, done it and it will scare the heck out of you. I use the chains with the welded on V's and even those get gunked up and useless if you don't stop and clean them regularly.

Thanks for the replies. Great info. We are going north of Gunnison. That Les Schwab sounds good. I will check them out.

shouldn’t have trouble with UCAs but I will look. And I really don’t want to screw up my TRD pro rims. That would suck big time.
