Ok I realize this is a pretty well discussed topic. But i’m a bit paranoid about it. My 2014 5.7 has 160k miles on it. And on start up it steams or smokes more than i’d like. First thing in the morning I assume it’s steam from condensation. But i’m here in Arizona for the holiday and it seems to do it every time I let the truck sit for over a few hours. I’s been 50-60’s and even low 70’s each day. What I don’t get is my father in laws 2018 Silverado does less smoke/steam than mine and less often and i’ve been following his truck alot down here.

My concern is because it does it not only in the morning but like 5pm after it was driven at noon.

This is a video of the hottest day about 68deg 30-40% humidity and it was not the first start if the day but it was sitting a few hours

I should add I towed 1500miles from WA to AZ no overheat, no issues, no loss of coolant. Maybe a little oil loss (1/8 qt) but it not have been as level of settle as long when I checked it, so I doubt it really lost any. i did have a running hot condition over the summer towing 7k lbs up a gravel hill in 4hi. The needle went a bit over half. But not into the red.

I don't think that is smoke. Does it smell like smoke burnt oil or something?
My 14 does that all the time and I live in FL.

It does smell what I would call “strong” it’s not pleasant to put your nose in. But It does not smell like syrup or oil.

i think it smells stronger when it’s colder out. Also goes away when the engine warms up

Condensation, like all are saying. If it were oil it would not dissipate into the atmosphere and stop as quickly. Watch other vehicles that you know have been sitting like overnight and starting in morning, same thing.

Just replaced the PCV about 5k miles ago. Also have been doing Seafoam intake foam once a year, and seafoam in gas tank and crank case before each oil change

It’s just condensation that sits in the muffler. Nothing to worry about.

It did do it again this morning. 62deg and 70% humidity

i guess that seems too warm for me for it to do that. But then again i’m used to high 30’s this time of year.

thanks for all the comments If I see a more dramatic start up i’ll update this.

That’s steam. Smoke would have come out instantly and not dissipated, it would drift up
