Hey everyone! New to the forum...
My name's Mason, just bought a 2008 Tundra 5.7L base model with a bunch of miles on her around 230k to be exact.
Truck was a 1 owner, well maintained.
The only major concern i have is the truck slows down going down hill. I understand it's a big heavy vehicle the long bed is 7200lbs but it doesn't matter what kind of decline I'm on if i let my foot off the gas i WILL slow down.
Maybe it's just normal which is why I'm here to find out... Lemme know what you guys think. Thanks
Oh yeah. I have stock 255s highway tires and stock height so those aren't the issues.
    Thanks guys

If you put the truck in neutral under these conditions, does it then speed up?

There is some programming in the transmission that doesn't allow for as much acceleration going down a hill with your foot off the gas as you otherwise might be used to. My 2015 Sienna does the same thing, but my 2004 4Runner did not. If you put the truck in neutral and it speeds up as you would expect, then you don't have much to worry about.

If you put the truck in neutral and it still slows down on its own, then I would get an IR thermometer and cost to a stop at the bottom of a hill, then check the temperature of each brake rotor. If you find that one is significantly hotter than the others, you would want to pull the caliper off and grease the slide pins, as well as ensuring that the piston moves relatively freely.

There is still friction in the drivetrain. If you take your foot off the gas, I would say its completely normal for it to slow down unless it's an extremely steep hill. If you touch the brakes it will downshift and add some engine braking as well.

I will try putting it in neutral the next big hill I'm on.
The amount of slow down seemed abnormal which is why I asked. I would go from 70mph to 60mph in a matter of probably 10-15 seconds.
I also got about 14.6 mpg the first tank which 1/2 was highway miles 70-75 mph
    Thanks audiowize

Agreed. It's different than any domestic half-ton I've driven.

I don't think the tundra shifts into neutral going downhill/coasting. I know some older GM trucks do.

The fact that this is normal is opening my mind up to getting all terrain tires put on haha

completely normal Tundra's already have such a low final gear , they will slow down do to engine braking. stay steady at speed an gas watch RPM once you go over the hill let off gas. you will notice a pick up of around RPM an decrease in speed.
