So I just bought my 21 limited 5.7 it’s got 23k on it. I took it out for a few hour trip and ended up in amazing CA traffic. I noticed at bumper to bumper speed if there was a larger distance between myself and other car and I accelerated really lightly to bridge the gap, the truck felt like it would slip (as in transmission slip) I know with the 6 speed tranny life is a little different, but is that “normal”? Or has anyone felt what I’m describing?

Sounds normal. I've been in the same situation where i'm easing in acceleration with traffic and sometimes when letting off the gas, it'll do a somewhat noticeable feeling shift into 2nd. I can almost replicate it on demand.

Every type/brand/trim of a vehicle can behave differently compared to what you're used to. I went from a 2015 honda civic with CVT to a 2014 Tacoma v6 4x4 to my current 2020 Tundra. Each vehicle had different characteristics to it that makes you think.

If you feel the transmission is truly slipping though and you're worried about it, you're in warranty still. But since I can feel it holding that first gear longer before shifting, IMO it sounds normal from what you're describing.

Mine acts similar at very slow speeds and light throttle. It's as if it's deciding which gear it needs to be in.

Sounds like you need a new transmission. I'll take this bad one off your hands ;)

I'm not an expert in Tundra transmissions, but most modern vehicles utilize adaptive learning transmissions and "learn" shift patterns based on driver behavior. I've always been told when buying a used vehicle to give the vehicle some time to learn your driving habbits versus the previous owners. Whether it is in my mind or not, I've noticed that my transmission shifts smoother than the first day I bought it (it was used).

Yep, normal. It's one of the things that's always bugged me about the truck, like it drops to a lower gear unnecessarily.

Thread revived. My 2018 does it. My 2009 tacoma did it also until they re flashed the transmission.
Does anyone knows about any Trans TSB?

Next time you hit traffic like that put the truck in sport mode and see if it feels different. The trans will probably stay in first gear longer in sport. For what it's worth, mine is a little clunky when its cold but only for a few minutes.

Yep normal....my 21 platinum does it when she's cold, feels like a long pause between 1st and 2nd.
In heavy slow traffic I will drop her down to s2, just remember to up shift when traffic starts moving again or you'll wonder why she's running 5k at 30mph :)
