I really like the sound of the TRD Pro dual exhaust, but everybody in here seems to favor the single exhaust for true performance gains. However, all of the single exhaust setups I see exit the passenger side. What’s the reason for this? Are there any meant to exit the driver side? Is that a silly question based on what’s going on underneath the Tundra, or could any good muffler shop make this happen?

I opted for the 5.7 V8 as part of a midlife crisis, so if I upgrade the exhaust, I want to be able to hear it as well as I can!

    Thanks!

The gas tank is on the driver's side so the exhaust goes around it on the passenger side.

@dirtydeeds can help you with a system. He is our go to exhaust guy. Yes, you will hear it on the passenger side.

I’m with you as far as the single passenger side exit doesn’t do it for me for sound. Theoretically you could make a single exit on the drivers side, it just has to follow a longer path from the drivers side, around the spare tire and back to the drivers side. More bends and pipe is more of a restriction in flow, but I doubt anyone could tell the difference. Between the lesser flow and extra material needed to make it, this is surely why no one makes a drivers side single exit. If you really wanted you could have it routed custom by a muffler shop to the drivers side, or just get a dual exit system which is my preference.

I’ve seen that everyone on here loves the DD setups, and I’m intrigued too. It seems Keith/they can do the TRD Replacement Catback, which goes out both sides, so the gas tank isn’t a deal breaker. Are the extra bends required to go around it more restrictive to airflow, if that was the only point of exhaust?

If you want to hear more in the cab you just order a smaller DD muffler size vs needing a dual exhaust setup. A dumped exhaust will be much louder as well. Duals do require alot more piping (weight and space) and restrict the spare tire size. The exhaust is unlikely to be (noticeably) more restricted in a dual exit setup. I have had DD 8” on a 5.7 and 4.6 with single exit and the Toyota reps thought it was a TRD exhaust by sound. DD Dumped no muffler was too loud for me. If you want the true beast setup you need the DD custom dual 3” (26” twin mufflers) and headers haha:

8” DD for single exit/stock setup I had for two Tundras:

Mad max volume level no muffler dump DD exhaust I had:

The DD TRD replacement just uses the TRD tailpipes, it only replaces the muffler section. You have to already have the tailpipes or buy them separately. Not sure if you’re near me but I’m going to be selling my stainless DD TRD replacement with 16” mufflers, X pipe and resonators including a set of tailpipes in the near future. I gave it a go, but I’m a TRD duals person.

Thanks for letting me know I wasn’t the only one! I agree with your assumptions about why nobody makes these. I still feel it’s a missed opportunity, though. I’d pay more, knowing that such a setup would have a higher material cost.

I appreciate the knowledge and offer. It doesn’t appear that we’re close, however.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I hadn’t even thought about what this could mean for a 35” spare tire!
