Discovered the climate system will keep Auto Stop from ever coming on.

In "Auto" climate mode, Auto Stop engages as needed or engaged by the driver.

But if you simply set the climate to your desired temp, and desired air-flow position (not in Auto), it will prevent auto stop from ever coming on — yet the climate system still acts like the Auto system — cooling or heating the cabin to the desired temp, blowing air as necessary.

I was beginning to think my Auto Stop was defective since I set the air flow to feet/windshield @ 18C weeks ago. When I flipped back to full Auto climate today, Auto Stop worked immediately again.

That’s a great trick to stop the auto start stop. But if it works like mine when I take it off auto, it just continues to blow that temp at the set fan speed. It’s doesn’t adjust up or down like auto would as ambient temps change over a drive.

When Not in auto it only disables if you have the defrost on otherwise stop start still works like normal

I’ve found if I come in soft to a stop and let up on the brake, not enough though to move, it won’t engage. I’ve kinda trained myself. The cluster will say if I press the brake more the auto stop will engage.

    But I don’t, I’m a rebel

That is correct most times I have to physically depress the pedal harder just to get it to activate if that’s what I want

Fan speed still adjusts up and down automatically.

It's the the defrost / feet setting, which is ideal for warmth, that prevents A/S.
In warmer climes, you'd have to set defrost/vent, but then you might get condensation on the windshield.

I'm actually a fan of this start/stop system and was curious why mine wasn't activating.

There must be some other caveat to this, as I hate the auto setting and never use it, yet auto-stop is always on.

I bet when it's hot as balls outside this theory wont work.

Better way, as @PapaDave418 noted, is to be super light on the brake pedal once stopped.

I think as long as the defrost setting is on, and it's not in Auto, it will remain always off. Tried again today and it replicated every time.
Again, I'm not against A/S, I kinda like it, but others don't.

Likely due to defrost commanding compressor on and not cycling it during normal HVAC function.

Just unplug the battery sensor. That’s the easiest way.
